Fencing Goes 3-1 at Sacred Heart Invitational to Begin Dual Meet Season

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - One close loss and three decisive victories belonged to Temple fencing at the Sacred Heart Invitational, as the nationally ranked Owls went 3-1 overall in their first dual meet of the season. Harvard, ranked fifth at the end of last year, beat Temple 16-11 in the Owls' only loss of the day.

Meet Results
> The Owls' sabre squad went a perfect 4-0 with its 5-4 win over Harvard coming down to the final bout. Foil also went to the last bout but lost 5-4.
> Temple beat NYU 24-3 in the first match of the day, with epee and sabre winning 8-1 and foil winning 7-2.
> After the loss to Harvard, the Owls rebounded with a 26-1 win over Vassar, getting a perfect 9-0 result from both the foil and sabre squads.
> To complete the day, Temple beat host Sacred Heart 24-3, once again behind perfect 9-0 performances from foil and sabre.

Individual Highlights
> Senior Jessica Rockford and sophomore Eva Hinds were undefeated for sabre, going 7-0 and 6-0, respectively.
> Junior Kerry Plunkett went 8-1 overall for sabre, while junior Malia Hee finished 7-1.
> The foil squad was led by junior Kennedy Lovelace who went 8-1 which included a perfect 3-0 mark against Harvard.
> Sophomore Megan Ross was 6-1 for foil while freshman Cassie Navalta was 5-1. Senior Auset Muhammad and freshman Aryana Abtin both finished 5-2.
> Leading the epee squad after facing the top competitors were sophomore Marielle Luke at 6-2 and senior Ally Micek at 5-3. Sophomore Zahrah Dinkins also finished strong at 5-1.
