Temple Fencing Ready for Last Meet of the Year

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 19 Temple fencing team is set to compete at the Sacred Heart Invitational this weekend in Fairfield, Connecticut. The Owls will begin action Saturday morning at 9 a.m. against NJIT before facing No. 7 Vassar at 10 a.m. and No. 5 NYU at 1 p.m. Temple will also square off with host Sacred Heart and Yale throughout the day as they close out the fall portion of their schedule. 

LAST TIME OUT

Temple returns to competition following a strong 3-1 performance at the Boston College Invitational before Thanksgiving. The Owls earned decisive wins over Wellesley and Wheaton while narrowly falling to Boston College, 10-17, in a hard-fought bout. 

INDIVIDUAL STANDOUTS

Freshman saberist Rayaana Grulich led the saber squad with five wins on the day, including an impressive 2-1 mark against Boston College. 
In foil, Natalie Adams-Kim and Jara Del Cura each finished 4-1, with Adams-Kim playing a key role in the final match against Boston College. 
Epeeist Grace Smith turned in the top overall performance for the Owls, tallying six wins to finish the day at 6-2. Smith also posted a 2-1 record versus Boston College, anchoring the epee squad's effort. 

UP NEXT

The Owls will open the new year at the Penn State Invitational on Sunday, January 25.
