Three Fencers Compete Strong at 2018 Junior Olympics

2.19.18 | Women's Fencing

MEMPHIS - Freshman Eva Hinds and sophomore Camille Simmons both recorded top 32 finishes in their respective events at the 2018 Junior Fencing Olympics, held Feb. 16-19. 

Hinds placed 31st of 189 competitors in junior women's sabre, while Simmons placed 32nd in junior women's epee out of 228 fencers. Freshman Marielle Luke also competed in junior women's epee, placingg 62nd.

In the direct elimination round, Hinds earned a bye and then defeated two opponents before falling 15-12 in the round of 32. 

Simmons got past three fencers by scores of 15-10, 15-14 and 15-13 before getting edged 4-3.

The entire Temple team will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 24, hosting the Temple Invitational at McGonigle Hall starting at 9 a.m.
