3.22.18 | Women's Fencing
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The first day of competition at the NCAA Championships is complete for Temple's three fencers, and sophomore Kennedy Lovelace is in a strong position for foil heading into day two. Sophomores Malia Hee and Kerry Plunkett are both representing the sabre squad, and also found some success in the opening rounds.Â
Lovelace had an outstanding first day, winning four of her first six bouts and going on to win 10 of 15 overall. With eight bouts to go in the round robin, she stands in sixth place among the 24 foil fencers.
In sabre, Hee also won four of her first six before finishing with eight wins in three rounds, and stands in 12th place. Plunkett is also through three rounds, and is currently 22nd in sabre.
Temple is 11th in the team standings after day one, out of 24 total teams represented.
Eight bouts remain in the round robin portion of the competition for each fencer. From there, the top four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with the winners fencing to determine first and second places, and the non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.
