Men's Crew Opens Dad Vails in Successful Fashion

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple men's crew team will compete in six finals, including five grand finals, after a successful opening day of the 2018 Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta.
FROSH/NOVICE EIGHT
> Temple's freshman eight recorded the fastest race in the opening time trials, finishing in 05:42.513 in the 25-boat field.
> In the semifinals, the Owls won in a time of 06:14.876. Temple topped Minnesota (06:26.325), Purdue (06:28.200), Massachusetts (06:30.931), Michigan State (06:34.719) and Virginia (6:53.647).
> The crew will compete in the grand finals for the Toby Wallace Bowl on Saturday at 1:20 p.m. out of lane three.
JUNIOR VARSITY EIGHT
> In the opening time trials, the Owls clocked in with the third best time (05:34.531), just .14 off the lead, out of 20 entries.
> In the semifinals, the Owls' time of 05:57.434 was second to only Delaware (05:55.393), to advance Temple to the medal race. The Owls finished ahead of Jacksonville (06:00.477), Bucknell (06:21.907), Coast Guard (06:23.101), and Minnesota (06:30.630).
> Temple will race in the grand finals on Saturday for the Ernie Bayer Trophy at 2:40 p.m. out of lane five.
VARSITY FOUR
> Temple ranked 13th in the time trials with a 06:27.773 in the massive 30-boat field.
> In the semifinals, the Owls earned a spot in the petite final with a fourth place finish in 06:46.350. Temple topped Loyola Maryland and Iona's times in the race.
> Temple will race in the petite finals on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. out of lane six.
VARSITY EIGHT
> The Owls clocked in with the second-best time of the morning, finishing their time trial in 05:20.309 in a field of 28.
> In the final race of the day, the Owls won their semifinal in a time of 5:44.825. Temple outpaced Virginia (05:47.595), Army (05:50.056), MIT (05:52.699), Grand Valley (06:01.015) and Coast Guard (06:04.835).
> Temple will race in the grand finals on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. for the Richard O'Brien Trophy at 5:00 p.m. out of lane four.
THIRD VARSITY EIGHT
> Temple advanced to the grand finals with a win in the semis, clocking in at 06:15.258. The Owls topped St. Joseph's (06:17.747), Virginia (06:24.464), and Michigan State (07:03.705) in the race.
> Temple will race in the grand finals on Saturday at 2:20 p.m. out of lane three.
LIGHTWEIGHT EIGHT
> Temple will compete in the grand finals on Saturday for the Thomas W. Loschiavo Tropy, at 4:00 p.m. out of lane two.
