Three from Volleyball Named Pre-Season Picks

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team boasted three Preseason All-Conference selections as announced by the American Athletic Conference on Monday. Temple's Irem Asci, Iva Deak, and Dana Westfield all picked up the honor, while as a team, the Owls were picked to finish third.
Asci, Deak, and Westfield are all returning regular season All-Conference selections. Asci is a two-time first team All-Conference selection and returns to the Owls' line-up after missing most of last season with an injury. Deak had a breakout junior season last year, earning All-Conference honors for the first time in her career. Westfield also grabbed an All-Conference honor last year, in her first season as a starter.
Temple led the American with three selections to the All-Conference squad, with Asci and Deak being named unanimous selections. Cincinnati, SMU, Tulsa, and Wichita State all had two selections to the team, with Cincinnati's Jordan Thompson being named Preseason Player of the Year.
In the preseason poll, Temple was picked to finish third overall with 106 points, garnering a first place vote. Defending champion, Wichita State had 113 points and six first place votes to garner preseason favorite honors, followed by Cincinnati with 108 points and five first place votes. SMU (94), UCF (74), and Tula (70) rounded out the top half of the field for preseason rankings.
Temple opens its 2018 season on Friday, August 24, hosting Rhode Island in the Hilton Penn's Landing Temple Invitational.
