Rachel Inniss Named Temple Gymnastics Assistant Coach
8.30.18 | Women's Gymnastics
Head gymnastics coach Josh Nilson announced the addition of Rachel Inniss to the Temple staff. Inniss, a native of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, was a four-year gymnast at Auburn and brings several years of coaching and competitive experience to Temple.
"It is rare to find someone with the experience that Rachel has had," said Nilson. "She is a former high-level SEC gymnast who also brings years of professional dancing to the table. She will be an immense help this year with our choreography, leaps and overall performance level. I am grateful and excited to add her to my staff."  Â
Inniss has served in two coaching capacities at Auburn. She was a student coach during her fifth year in 2012 and spent the past two seasons as the volunteer women's gymnastics coach. As a volunteer coach, she worked with beam and floor, choreographed routines and had a hand in operations duties. At Temple, Inniss will hold many of the same responsibilities. While at Auburn, Inniss choreographed floor routines for two All-Americans and three All-SEC gymnasts. Simultaneously, she coached at the Auburn Gymnastics Academy and interned with the Director of Operations.
"I am so excited to be given the opportunity to be part of this program," said Inniss. "As soon as I stepped on campus I felt so comfortable and was ready to get started. This school has so much to offer with academics. I was impressed by all the services that are offered to the student athletes. Josh and I are really on the same page for what we want for this program. Though we see eye to eye, we also bring very different experiences to the table. That will really benefit this team."
Inniss returned to her alma mater after being a professional dancer at Walt Disney World for four years. She danced three contracts as an Equity dancer at the Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage in Hollywood Studios.
As an athlete, Inniss amassed numerous accolades during her career at Auburn. She was the NCAA Regional Floor Champion and an NCAA National Championship Qualifier in 2010. She holds collegiate career highs of 9.925 on both floor and beam.
Inniss earned her undergraduate degree in public administration from Auburn in 2012 and has a 4-year-old daughter named Charlotte.
