Volleyball Readies for First Conference Road Trip this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team opens conference play on the road this weekend. The Owls will play at Houston on Friday at 8:00 p.m. EST and at SMU 1:00 p.m.

AMERICAN DIGITAL NETWORK
> The American Digital Network will open its fifth season with Temple's game at SMU on Sunday.
> Lincoln Rose will handle play-by-play duties, alongside Adam Johnson with color commentary. Ashton Benford will be the sideline reporter
> Overall, the ADN schedule includes 19 total games, including regular-season contests in men's and women's soccer, and with volleyball. Additionally, The American men's and women's cross country, women's soccer and men's soccer championships also will have live coverage.

THE OWLS
> Temple finished the non-conference schedule with a 3-9 record.
> In their last time out, the Owls compiled their best tournament result, going 2-1 at the Cherry & White Challenge, snapping a nine-match losing streak. 
> Temple fell to Maryland on Friday, but rebounded for a pair of 3-1 wins on Saturday, defeating New Hampshire, and 2017 NCAA Tournament participant, Princeton.
> Sophomore Baleigh Jean-Philippe was named to the All-Tournament team, while senior Mia Heirakuji earned a spot on the American Weekly Honor Roll for their performances in the event.
> The Owls are led by junior Dana Westfield's 2.64 kills per set, while Papazoglou adds 2.27 and freshman Gem Grimshaw, 1.82.
> Senior Hannah Vandegrift leads Temple with 5.32 assists per set, while freshman Tyler Lindgren adds 4.96 assists per set.
> Heirakuji leads the defense with 4.02 digs per frame with senior Carla Guennewig tallying a team-high 1.06 blocks per set.

SCOUTING HOUSTON
> Houston enters conference play with a 13-2 overall record.
> The Cougars are coming off a 2-1 record at the Robert Morris Tournament, with wins over Eastern Michigan (3-1), Duquesne (3-1), but a loss to the hosts (3-2). 
> Megan Duncan leads the Houston attack with 3.29 kills per set, while she also has tallied 2.04 digs per frame.
> Gabi Zelaya averages 2.57 kills and 2.24 digs per set, with Silvia Pertens (2.04 k/s), and Kenda Haywood (1.95 k/s; 1.12 blocks/s) also contributing. 
> Setting duties are split between Abby Irvine (5.57 a/s) and Katie Krebs (4.94 a/s) with Krebs recording a team-high 20 aces.
> Katie Karbo is the Cougars' libero, averaging 4.82 digs per set.
TEMPLE VS. HOUSTON
> The Owls are 8-3 all-time against the Cougars, having won four-straight in the series.

SCOUTING SMU
> SMU enters conference play with a 3-7 overall record. 
> The Mustangs are coming off a 1-1 split at their own Doubletree Invitational. SMU topped Abilene Christian 3-2, but fell 3-2 to LSU.
> The Mustangs are led by Brittany Adams' 3.18 kills per set with the outside hitter second on the team with 3.24 digs per set.
> Hannah Jacobs aids the offense with 2.74 kills per set, while Rachel Woulfe adds 2.08 kills per set.
> Kendall Patterson (5.59 a/s) and Lily Heim (4.82) have split setting duties.
> Montana Watts leads the defense with 5.18 digs per set, while Lexi Nordmann has a team-best 1.08 blocks per frame.

TEMPLE VS. SMU
> Temple is 7-4 all-time against SMU, having won three out of the last four.
