Track & Field Finishes Strong at Columbia Challenge

1.26.19 | Women's Track and Field

NEW YORK – The Temple University track and field squad wrapped up day two of the Columbia Challenge in good fashion. After breaking the DMR record on day one at the Armory in New York, the Owls saw multiple fast times and personal bests to close out the weekend.

Top Performances
> The Owls got the day started in the 3000m college race. Kira Von Ehren ran her second 3000m in Cherry and White in 9:39.50, shaving nearly eight seconds off of her time from earlier in the season. The juniors' personal best was good to place second in the college section. Senior Katie Leisher finished next for Temple, placing ninth with a time of 9:59.36. Right behind her was sophomore Lucy Jones, who broke her PR by over a second to finish 10th with a time of 10:02.24.
> Junior Grace Moore had an impressive showing in the 3000m college run. Surpassing her previous personal record of 9:39.29 by almost 13 seconds, Moore finished third overall with an impressive 9:26.12.
> Freshman Marissa White continues to shine week after week in the 400m. Since her first race at Temple, her time in the event has continued to drop as she improves in the event. Today on the track, the freshman rounded the track twice in 56.97, breaking 57 flat for the first time in Cherry and White to improve last weeks' time of 57.29. Sophomore Mallorie Smith ran her first 400m of the season in 58.65.
> Sophomore Aisha Brown put on an impressive performance in the high jump today, clearing 1.75m. This jump was good for an indoor and season personal-best and earned her third place overall.

From the Coach
> "Today was the second day of the Columbia Challenge, which was a very organized and well-run meet," said head coach Elvis Forde. "The evidence really showed people making improvements. Of all of the races this weekend, Grace individually had the most outstanding day. Setting a new personal best by almost 13 seconds is a huge improvement, and the drop shows the dedication and commitment that she has had over the last few years. Coach Snyder has done a fantastic job preparing her, and I know he has gotten her ready to improve every time she races while gaining confidence in herself."
> Millie had a decent race, not what she expected but it was just a matter of performing to her own potential. Marissa dropped another couple tenths of a second in the 400m, and she got under 57 seconds which was a big improvement. She continues to understand what indoor running is all about and continues to run better each week. Aisha Brown hit an indoor personal best in the high jump, and there is so much more left in her and she will continue to get better.
> Collectively, we look back on the weekend and we look forward to getting better in the next couple of weeks and building off of these races. Overall, it was a good weekend with a school record in the process, and things are falling into place for all of us."

> The Owls will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 2 when they head to the Villanova Invitational on Staten Island, N.Y.
