USF Tops Women's Basketball to Open Conference Play

PHILADELPHIA — Visiting USF dominated the offensive glass powering to a 63-53 win over the Temple women's basketball team in the American Athletic Conference opener for both squads. The Bulls improved to 10-5 overall, while the Owls dropped to 4-9 with the loss.
Keys to the Game
> Both teams' shot around 32%, but USF out-rebounded Temple, 57-40, including racking up 26 offensive boards.
> The Bulls went up by as many as 12 points in the first half, before Temple chipped away to make it 29-24 at the break.
> After three quarters, the five-point USF advantage stood, which Temple got down to four (49-45) with 4:45 to play in the fourth.

Individual Highlights
> Sophomore Mia Davis tallied 19 points and pulled down six rebounds, while graduate student Alliya Butts added 16 points with three assists and two steals.
> Butts moved into a tie for Temple's all-time steals record at 252 takeaways, sharing the honor with LaKeisha Eaddy (2006-10).
> Freshman Alexa Williamson had another solid game, recording nine points, a team-best eight boards, with four steals and two blocks.
> Sophomore Breanna Perry pulled down six rebounds with a pair of blocks, while freshman Marissa Mackins rounded out the stats with seven points, three assists, and two steals.

> USF used an 8-0 run to close the frame however, setting the score to 19-11 after one.

> Temple got the first bucket of the second quarter, but USF answered with six straight points to go up by 12.
> The Owls chipped away with baskets from Davis and Butts to make it 25-17.
