Volleyball Hosts ECU and Cincinnati at McGonigle Hall this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team continues play in the American Athletic Conference this weekend, hosting East Carolina and Cincinnati at McGonigle Hall. The Owls will face the Pirates on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and then take on the Bearcats on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

PROMOTIONS
> Temple is celebrating Homecoming week. On Friday, the Owls will be giving away student tickets to Saturday's football game.
> White Out: Friday's game features free t-shirts, courtesy of the AKF group, while one lucky student will win a pair of white wireless Beats headphones.
> Temple will also celebrate the team "MVP's" aka Most Valuable Professors in between the first and second sets of Friday's match.
> On Sunday, there will be free coffee and donuts for students at the match.

OWL ABOUT TEMPLE
> Temple is 9-6 to start the season, 0-4 in conference play. The Owls have lost six straight matches since going 9-0 to open the year.
> Temple is led by junior Katerina Papazoglou's 3.07 kills per set, while the outside hitter also ranks second on the Owls with 3.04 digs per frame.
> Sophomore Gem Grimshaw adds 3.02 kills per set to the offense, while classmate Peyton Boyd tallies 2.52 kills per set.
> Sophomore Tyler Lindgren is the primary setter, dishing out 9.20 assists/set.
> At the net, freshman Kayla Spells leads Temple with 0.94 blocks per set, while junior Baleigh Jean-Philippe contributes 0.75 per frame.
> Defensively, junior Averi Salvador tops the Owls with 5.00 digs per set.
> Temple's offense hits .223, while the Owls are holding opponents to a .189 attack, third in the league.
> Individually, Salvador ranks third in the conference in digs per set while Lindgren is fourth in assists per set.

SCOUTING ECU
> East Carolina enters Friday's match-up with a 13-4 overall record, 1-3 in conference play.
> The Pirates are coming off a conference split last weekend, topping USF 3-0, while falling to UCF, 3-0.
> ECU is led offensively by outside hitter Sydney Kleinman (3.50 kills/set) and right side Bri Wood (3.06 kills/set) who are both tied for the team lead in total kills with 196.
> Shelby Martin (6.73 assists/set) and Marissa Harmon (4.26 assists/set) run the offense to the tune of a .254 attack, which ranks third in the conference.
> Brandee Markwith leads the Pirates' defense with 4.55 digs per set, while at the net, Toya Osuegbu tops the team with 0.85 blocks per set, 53 total.

TEMPLE VS. THE PIRATES
> Temple is 6-1 all-time against the Pirates, but ECU claimed last season's only meeting, a 3-1 win on Temple's home court.

SCOUTING CINCINNATI
> Cincinnati is 12-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference play. The Bearcats most recently topped UCF (3-0) and USF (3-1) in Ohio last weekend.
> Cincinnati is led by Jordan Thompson, two-time All-American, and US Senior National Team member. Thompson averages 6.26 kills per set, leading the nation in the category. She adds a team-high 24 aces with 2.78 digs per set to her all around game.
> Flanking Thompson on offense is Maria Mallon who tallies 3.65 kills per set.
> Armania Heckenmueller leads the Pirates and the American Athletic Conference with 11.55 assists per set.
> On defense, Mackenzie Conner tops the team with 3.26 digs per set, while Mallon adds 2.89 per frame.
> Cincinnati hits .288 as a team to lead the American, while opponents hit .250 against the Bearcats.

TEMPLE VS. THE BEARCATS
> Temple is 9-5 all-time against Cincinnati, with the Bearcats winning the match-up last season, 3-0, in Philadelphia.
