PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over visiting East Carolina on Friday night at McGonigle Hall. The Owls won a hard fought 25-21, 26-28, 25-22, 25-13 match to move to 10-6 overall, 1-4 in conference play. ECU dips to 14-5, 1-4 in the AAC.
Keys to the Match
> Temple hit a stout .289, holding ECU to a .189 attack.
> The Owls held a 75-57 advantage in digs, with a 7-5 edge in blocks.
> Temple used a late run to grab the first set, but ECU tied the match with a similar script, using end-of-set heroics to take the second frame.
> The Owls nabbed the win in the rubber set, holding on for a 25-22 victory.
> The momentum carried into the fourth set, which was all Temple, as the Owls hit .333 to cruise to a 25-13 win.
Quotable: Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam
> "It feels great to get this win. We've been working really, really hard and we've been so close. I have to give this team a lot of credit. They're very young, but every workout this week was good. We made some adjustments and worked on some weaknesses and they certainly earned this win tonight."
> "In the past, especially the last two matches, we've had some good opportunities to close out some sets and we came up short because we made some unforced errors. So we really focused on that this week and I think in the second set we made some of those mistakes. The good thing is the team responded really well. We've worked hard on it, and to not get that set, it could have deflated us, but we responded in a really positive way, and performed at a high level the rest of the match."
