ORLANDO— Temple women's soccer (4-8-4, 2-4-1 AAC) took on No. 21 UCF (8-2-3, 3-1-1 AAC) in Orlando on Thursday night, battling the Knights in a hard-fought, physical match that resulted in a 0-0 draw. The Owls defense and senior goalkeeper Morgan Basileo were outstanding. Basileo notched 11 saves to help the Owls pick up a point on the road and earn her fourth shutout of the season.
How it Happened
> The Owls' first strong look of the night came in the fourth minute off a bending corner served by sophomore Hailey Gutowski. UCF's keeper, Carolina DeLisle, got a hand on the attempt to push it out of play.
> Basileo thwarted the Knights' first threatening scoring opportunity in the 22nd minute. Basileo sprung into action to stop the attempt. Basileo added to her strong performance between the posts in the 31st minute as she used her feet to make back-to-back saves, keeping UCF off the scoresheet.
> Temple's defensive organization and skill was the story of the match. In the 53rd minute, junior Bella Sorrentino made a strong play to push an attacking UCF forward off the ball and stop the Knights' counterattack.
> Sophomore Gabriela Johnson recorded Temple's best look of the second half in the 68th minute. Johnson put pressure on the UCF defense and fired a shot on frame, but DeLisle was in place to make the save.
> In the second overtime period, Basileo capped off her stellar match with three saves in less than two minutes. The senior's efforts helped to preserve the draw for the Owls.
Match Notes
> Basileo had a standout match for Temple, as she recorded 11 saves to bring her season total to 112. The senior made numerous key saves to keep the match scoreless and earn her fourth shutout of the year.
> The Owls defense stood strong all night, as the Knights recorded 26 shots with 11 on goal, but none of them found the back of the net.
From the Coach
> "From the coaching staff down to the players, we came up with and executed a great game plan," said head coach Seamus O'Connor. "I was really impressed with the team's all-around effort. The players really trusted that the staff would put them in a position to be successful. The front three did a tremendous amount of grunt work up top trying to set the press. Our center mids, Julia Dolan and Natalie Druehl, were outstanding and did a mountain of work tonight and the back five were just spectacular. And then there is Morgan Basileo, who had an absolutely amazing game. Her decision-making coming off the line, kicking game, everything was just tremendous. When you play a ranked team on their home field, you know it's going to be difficult, but the team rose to the challenge."

> Temple will wrap up its Florida road trip at RV USF on Sunday, Oct. 20. The contest between the Owls and the Bulls is set to kick off at 1 p.m. at Corbett Stadium.
