Men's Cross Country Wins First Race of 2019 Season

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.— The Temple men's cross country team earned first place at the Penn State National Open Friday morning at the Blue and White Courses. Zach Seiger finished fifth overall and first for the Owls with his time of 25:36.7.
About the Meet of Champions
> The Owls were one of the 11 teams competing at the Blue and White Courses for the 5.2 mile race.Â
> Rounding out the top three were Penn and Penn State. In this week's USTFCCCA Regional rankings, Penn was at the top of the list while the Owls were ranked fifth and Penn State fell at seven.Â
Race Notes
> Following Seiger across the finish line was junior Kristian Holm Jensen as he finished sixth with a time of 25:38.5.
> Harry Powell and Kevin Lapsansky stayed close to the front of the pack, finishing eighth and 10th with respective times of 25:46.7 and 25:49.3.Â
> David Westcott was the fifth in the Cherry and White to cross the finish line with his time of 26:07.0 to earn 28th overall.

> "Our goal coming up here today was to come in and win this meet," expressed head coach James Snyder. "The last time we competed as a group was at Iona soI knew we would be fit, hungry and ready to go and the guys did just that."
> "Zach, Harry and Kristian put themselves right in the front, right in the lead and hung in tough and we were able to put four guys in the top-10," noted Snyder. "David Westcott stepped up as our number five so we could win the race.
> "We will be better in two weeks at the conference meet and we will be better in a month at the regional meet."
