Field Hockey Returns to Broad Street

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple field hockey team (5-8, 1-4 Big East) will return home for a Friday night contest on Broad Street against Big 5 rival Villanova before closing out the weekend at Rutgers. The Owls' season is coming to a close, with just two matches left on the books after this weekend. Temple has a 4-3 record at home, but hasn't seen action at Howarth Field since falling to UConn on Oct. 4.

Scouting Temple
> Temple went 1-1 last weekend, defeating Georgetown and falling to Lafayette. Both games went into overtime, with the Leopards scoring just 21 seconds into the extra minutes. With the win over the Hoyas, the Owls snapped their 18-game Big East losing streak in regular season play.
> The team conceded just two goals last weekend, 19 total for the season. The defense has been solid for the Temple this year, allowing just 136 shots. 
> Junior Dani Batze and senior Becky Gerhart lead the NCAA in career saves, with both Owls recording 16. Batze is also tied for fifth in the NCAA for defensive saves for the season with five.

Scouting Villanova
> Villanova is 6-8 (1-4 Big East) on the season and is in a four-way tie with Temple for fifth-place in the conference standings.
> The Wildcats will come to Howarth field on a two-game losing streak, with their most recent victory being an 8-3 win over La Salle.
> Villanova has scored just 39 goals this season while conceding 50. The Wildcats are outscored by their opponents by an average of 0.78 goals per game and have been shut
out twice.

> Temple and Villanova are meeting for the 19th time in series history, with the Owls holding a 12-6 series advantage.
> The last meeting between the two teams was in 2018, with Villanova earning a 3-1 victory.

Scouting Rutgers
> Rutgers is 8-6 (3-3 Big Ten) on the season and enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak.
> The Scarlett Knights are 3-5 against ranked opponents, most recently defeating No. 21 Ohio State 1-0.
> The team has scored in all but two of their first 14 games, and are outscoring their opponents 23-20.
> Rutgers is 3-3 at home, and will host #7 Michigan before welcoming the Owls to Piscataway, N.J.
