Temple Men's Cross Country after their runner up finish at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships

Men's Cross Country Finishes Second at AAC Championship

11.1.19 | Men's Cross Country

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The Temple men's cross country team finished second overall at the American Athletic Conference championships Friday morning. Harry Powell was the first in the Cherry and White to cross the finish line with a time of 24:28.9 for a 10th overall finish.

About the AAC Championships
> Temple was one of 10 teams racing through Shelby Park Farms on Friday morning.
> The Owls claimed the runner-up spot for the second year in a row, after finishing second at last year's AAC Championship in New Orleans, La.
> No. 6 Tulsa took the title of AAC champs for the sixth-straight year.
> Aaron Bienenfeld of Cincinnati blew away the competition, finishing 29 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in Scott Beattie of Tulsa.

Race Notes
> Powell earned All-Conference status with his 10th-place finish to lead the Owls.
> Following closely behind were seniors Zach Seiger and Kevin Lapsansky, who finished with respective times of 24:29.4 and 24:30.0 to take 11th and 12th places.
> The duo of Seiger and Lapsansky earned All-Conference recognition with their top-15 finishes. With his 12th-place mark, Lapsansky becomes the first men's cross country runner in program history to become a three-time All-Conference honoree.
> Kristian Jensen ran to a 17th-place finish with his time of 24:39.0 while Anton Harrsen rounded out the top-five in the 18th spot, clocking in at 24:41.0.

From the Coach
> "Coming into today, we knew we were up against a pretty formidable foe in Tulsa," reflected head coach James Snyder. "Props to the Golden Hurricanes for taking the title. I think the way the league stacked up this year, they were obviously the favorite but we thought we were much better than anyone else and I think that's how it shook out today."
> "I'm really excited about the gap from one-to-five. We had a little bit of a hole at Penn State a few weeks ago where our gap from four to five grew a little bit, but having Anton back in that fold today really helped tighten that group up and our one-to-five spread was only 13 seconds."
> "If we are able to build off this and grow from here, in a couple of weeks we are going to be talking about a team that is going to the national meet."

Up Next
> The Owls will compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Nov. 15 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
