Fourth Quarter Run Sends Women's Basketball Past Xavier

PHILADELPHIA - A 17-0 run in the fourth quarter helped push Temple past Xavier 78-65 Thursday night at the Liacouras Center. The Owls move to 3-1 on the season while the Musketeers drop to 1-1.
Keys to the Game
> Temple went on a 17-0 run late in the fourth quarter to finally push past the Musketeers and record their third win of the season.
> The Owls outshot Xavier 43.5% to 38.7% from the field.

Individual Highlights
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones collected a career-high 23 points while adding eight assists and eight rebounds. The Philadelphia native registered four shots from beyond the arc to lead the Owls in three-point shooting.
> Mia Davis registered her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. The junior added two blocks in the win.
> Freshman Rayniah Walker hit two clutch threes in the fourth quarter to help fuel the Owls past Xavier.
First Quarter
> Jones led the Owls on the boards in the first frame, snagging four defensive rebounds.
> Temple took control of the first three and a half minutes, holding Xavier 9-0.
> The Musketeers went on a 9-2 run to come within two points of the Owls, but a three-pointer from Mackins gave Temple some distance.
> With 41 seconds to go, A'riana Gray knocked down a three to tie the game.
> Ayanna Townsend drew a foul with 0.02 seconds on the clock and made one of two foul shots to give the Musketeers a one-point edge heading into the second stanza.

> Marissa Mackins scored the first five points of the second half with a three and a drive to the basket.

> Two free throws from Carrie Gross followed by a layup brought Xavier within one point with 2:20 left in the third frame.
> Na'Teshia Owens gave the Musketeers their first lead of the quarter with a three-pointer before Jones immediately answered on the other end with a trey of her own to tie the game heading into the final quarter.
