Davis Scores 1,000th Career Point in Women's Basketball Loss to #4 UConn

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's basketball team dropped an 83-54 American Athletic Conference match-up at the hands of #4 UConn at the Liacouras Center on Sunday. The win improves the Huskies to 3-0 (1-0), while Temple dips to 3-2 (0-1). Owls' junior Mia Davis netted her 1,000th career point in the loss.
Keys to the Game
> The hot-shooting Huskies led by 11 after one, and pushed it to a 16-point edge at the half.
> Temple rallied to close the gap to 10 with a 15-11 third quarter, but UConn put the Owls away with a 26-9 advantage in the fourth.
> UConn shot 49.2% from the field and 36.4% from three, as Temple was held to 34.4% from the field and just 26.9% from three.
> The Huskies held a 40-32 edge on the glass and led 36-16 in points in the paint.
Individual Highlights
> Junior Mia Davis became the 25th Temple women's basketball player to reach the 1,000-point mark, finishing the game with 18 points
> Freshman Asonah Alexander was the only other Owl in double figures in scoring with 11 points.
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones finished with a team-best nine rebounds, adding nine points, while sophomore Marissa Mackins chipped in with eight points.

> A fast paced first frame saw UConn jump out to an early 8-2 advantage.
> Temple got five from Davis and a bucket from Jones to cut it to 11-9.
> A Davis three closed the gap once again to 17-12, but that's as close as the Owls got, as UConn went up by 11, 32-21, after one.
Second Quarter
> Both offenses cooled in the second frame, as UConn extended it's lead to 46-30 with a 14-9 edge in the quarter.
> A pair of threes from Alexander cut the Huskies' lead to 38-29, but UConn used an 8-1 surge to lead by 16 at the half.
Third Quarter
> Coming out of the locker room, Temple out-scored UConn, 15-11, to close the gap.
> After falling behind 53-34, the Owls put together an 11-2 run, sparked by six points from Davis, including her 1,000th.
> Temple's surge closed the gap to 10 points, before UConn scored the final basket of the quarter to lead by 12 after three.
Fourth Quarter
> A 15-2 opening run from UConn dashed any hopes of an Owls' upset, as the Huskies took their largest lead of the game, 72-47, midway through the quarter.
> A Mackins three briefly halted the UConn run, but the Huskies finished out the lopsided victory.
