Volleyball Prepares for Final Road Trip of the Season

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will hit the road for its final road trip of the season, as the Owls play at UConn on Friday at noon and then at Tulane on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.Â
OWL ABOUT TEMPLE
> Temple is 11-12 overall, including a 2-10 mark in conference play.
> Last weekend's results put Temple below .500 for the first time this season.
> Sophomore Peyton Boyd leads the Owls with 2.97 kills per set and a .318 hitting percentage.
> Sophomore Gem Grimshaw tallies 2.92 kills and 2.38 digs per set, while junior Katerina Papazoglou also adds good all-around numbers with 2.55 kills and 2.95 digs per frame.
> Sophomore Miray Bolukbasi (2.42 kills/set) and senior Dana Westfield (2.08 kills/set) bolster the Owls' varied attack.
> Sophomore Tyler Lindgren has dished out 8.99 assists per set with junior Selia Merfol combining for 3.12 assists per frame.
> At the net, freshman Kayla Spells leads Temple with 0.82 blocks per set, while junior Baleigh Jean-Philippe contributes 0.76 per frame.
> Defensively, junior Averi Salvador tops the Owls with 4.74 digs per set.
> Temple's offense hits .214, while opponents hit .213 against the Owls.
> Individually, Salvador ranks third in the conference in digs per set while Lindgren is fourth in assists per set.
SCOUTING UCONN
> UConn enters Friday's match with a 9-15 overall record, with a 3-9 mark in conference play.
> The Huskies are coming off an 0-2 weekend, falling at ECU 0-3, and Cincinnati, 3-2.
> UConn is led by Caylee Parker who averages 3.47 kills per set, while Kennadie Jake-Turner (2.10 kills/set) and Jasmine Davis (2.07 kills/set) also aid the attack.
> Parker is UConn's top defensive player as well, tallying 2.62 digs per set on the season.
> Courtney Morris runs the offense to the tune of 8.62 assists per frame, while Genna Florig tops the Huskies at the net with 1.01 blocks per set.
> As a team, UConn hits .187 while opponents are hitting .195 against the Huskies.
TEMPLE VS. UCONN
> Temple is 12-6 all-time against UConn, but the Huskies took the earlier meeting this year, a 3-1 win in Philadelphia.

> UConn grabbed a 3-1 win in McGonigle Hall with set scores of 21-25, 25-16, 25-20, and 27-25.
> Temple got off to a fast start in front of a loud "School Day" crowd, but UConn quickly tied the match at 1-1.
> The Huskies then came away with two tight wins in the third and fourth sets, including a nail biting 27-25 fourth set, to take the match.
> UConn hit .248 to Temple's .176, while also holding a 13-4 advantage in blocks.
> For Temple, Katerina Papazoglou had a career high with 22 total kills adding 11 digs for a double-double, while Averi Salvador notched 22 digs.
> For UConn, sabelle Peterson recorded 12 kills and three digs while Caylee Parker had her sixth double double of the season, tallying 16 kills and 15 digs.
SCOUTING TULANE
> Tulane is 17-8 overall with a 7-5 mark in conference play. The Green Wave are still in the hunt for a bid to the American Athletic Conference tournament.
> Tulane has four players with 2.00 kills per set or better, led by Lexie Douglas' 2.87. She adds 2.64 digs per set and a team-best 30 aces.
> Kayla Dikins tallies 2.17 kills per set and leads the Green Wave with 1.44 blocks per set.
> Erika Hansel adds 2.07 kills per set with Lauryn Green (2.00 kills/set), Makala Heidelberg (1.95 kills/set), and Yvette Burcescu (1.83 kills/set) rounding out the high powered Tulane offense.
> Amanda Giardina leads Tulane with 5.29 assists per set, while Jenna Ibieta adds 4.83 assists per frame.
> Defensively, Kaylie McHugh tops the team with 4.47 digs per set.
> Tulane hits .213 on the year, holding opponents to a .158 attack, which ranks first in the conference

> Temple is 7-3 all-time against the Green Wave, but Tulane has won two in a row in the series. This is the first meeting between the teams this year.
