Women's Basketball Downs Duquesne to Move to 2-0

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's basketball team used a 15-0 run spanning three minutes at the end of the third into the fourth to put away visiting Duquesne, 86-72, on Friday night at McGonigle Hall. The win gives the Owls a 2-0 start to the 2019-20 season, while the Dukes dip to 0-2 to begin their campaign.
Keys to the Game
> Temple shot 55% from the field in the second half, as the Owls high-powered offense finished at 48.5% for the game.
> The Owls saw eight different players score, including six different players connecting from long range.
> Temple worked around 17 turnovers, holding a 41-28 advantage on the boards.
> Duquesne hung around in the first and second quarters as the Dukes took a slim lead midway through the second.
> Temple held on for a six point edge after two frames, before a huge third quarter saw the Owls go in front by 11.

> Sophomore Alexa Williamson struck for nine points and six boards, while graduate student Lena Niang had eight points.
> Freshman Asonah Alexander tallied six points and eight assists, while Shannen Atkinson pulled down five boards.
First Quarter
> Temple shot 50% in the first quarter, with Jones starting the scoring with a corner three.
> With the score knotted at 5-5, the Owls used a 7-0 surge to take control midway through the action.
> Temple's lead grew to nine on a Mackins three, but Duquesne hit a three as time expired to close it to a six point Owls' edge after one.
Second Quarter
> Duquesne erased the Temple advantage, starting the quarter on a 12-4 run, which included nine unanswered points to go up 25-23.
> The Owls countered with a Niang three that put them briefly back in front, but Duquesne again answered.
> After the lead changed hands twice more, it was the Owls that struck last, as Williamson got the half's final bucket to put Temple up 37-34.
Third Quarter
> Temple extended its lead to 44-36 early in the third, as Davis struck for the first five Owls' points of the frame.
> Duquesne once again answered, using an 8-0 run to tie it at 44-44.
> After the teams traded scores, Temple took over. The Owls put together an 11-1 closing run and scored the final nine points of the frame to lead 61-50 after three.
Fourth Quarter
> Temple continued its scoring into the fourth, as Mackins hit a triple and Davis got three the hard way to put the Temple lead at 17 (57-50).
> Duquesne got the lead down to 10 points with just over four minutes to play, but Temple was able to end the game with a margin of 13.
