Calderaro, Park Fence in Day One of November NAC

11.8.19 | Women's Fencing

MILWAUKEE - Freshmen Margherita Calderaro and Sarah Park were the first two of three Temple fencers to compete a the November North American Cup Friday afternoon. The competition featured 230 competition from across nation and Canada.

Park fenced in two rounds of direct elimination bouts, defeating No. 112 seed Arianna Ahuja 13-11 before falling to No. 17 seed Claire Beddingfield, who eventually finished in second-place, 14-10. Park finished in 117th place.

Calderaro advanced to the round of 32, fencing in three direct elimination bouts and earning a first round bye after tying for the eighth seed following pool play. She easily defeated No. 121 seed Anabella Advincula 15-6 in the round of 128 before earning a 15-10 victory over Sabine Desamours. The Rome, Italy, native fell 15-10 to Ariana Mangano and tied for a 19th place finish. This was the second time this season Mangano has faced Temple, winning the epee crown at the Temple Open last weekend.

Temple will wrap up the November NAC tomorrow, with Zoe Turner set for sabre competition. Pool play is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
