Women’s Basketball to Take on Towson Wednesday Morning

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team will play the Towson Tigers on Wednesday, Dec. 4 for an 11 a.m. tip at the SECU Arena in Towson, Md. 

THE OWLS
> Temple enter's their first game of December with a 4-4 record. The Owls recently returned from Cancun, Mexico after competing in the Cancun Challenge, where they fell to both North Carolina (71-58) and Creighton (69-59).
> Shannen Atkinson was named to the Cancun Challenge Riviera Division All-Tournament team after averaging 10.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. The senior recorded her first double-double of the season against Creighton with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Atkinson also earned AAC Weekly Honor Roll following her performances in Mexico. 
> Asonah Alexander also left Mexico with a double-double performance as the freshman registered career-highs in both points (16) and rebounds (11). Alexander leads Temple and the American Athletic Conference with 38 assists on the year. 
> The Owls are paced by Mia Davis with 19.5 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game. Davis is currently shooting a team-best 49.6% from the floor.
> Ashley Jones adds 16.5 points per game for Temple, including her team-best 84.6% from the foul line. Jones averages 5.5 rebounds per game and 4.2 assists per game. 
> Sophomore Marissa Mackins is the third Owl to average double-digit points with 10.0 per game. Mackins leads Temple with 18 three-pointers so far this season. 

LAST TIME OUT: Creighton 69, Temple 59
> Jaylyn Agnew, who entered tonight's contest averaging 3.5 three-pointers per game, was only able to knock down one shot from beyond the arc as a result of the Owls defense. 
> Temi Carda stepped up for the Bluejays to register a team-high 17 points, including three triples. 
> Mykel Parham tied Atkinson for a game-high 11 rebounds. Parham pulled down a game-high of four offensive boards to give Creighton more second-chance scoring opportunities. 
> Temple outscored the Bluejays 16-11 in the first quarter, but Creighton quickly worked their way out of the deficit to outscore the Owls the remaining three quarters. 
> After having trouble getting shots to fall in the first quarter, the Bluejays ended the game with six three-pointers and went 19-for-27 from the foul line to push themselves past the Owls. 
> Despite the loss, Temple outshot Creighton 42.1% to 37.9% from the field and held the edge in rebounding, 39-38. 
> Atkinson added a block and an assist to her double-double performance. The senior earned All-Tournament team honors after finishing the week averaging 10.5 points and 9.5 rebounds. 
> Davis led all players with 18 points while Jones added 14 for the Owls. 
> Alexander pulled down nine boards for Temple and recorded a game-high three assists. 

SCOUTING TOWSON
> The Tigers (3-4) are coming off of a 1-1 week in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Iowa topped Towson 100-72 on Thanksgiving Day before the Tigers defeated Iona 75-58 on Nov. 29. 
> Nukiya Mayo led Towson in the loss to Iowa with 22 points as the senior recorded her 1,000th career point. Mayo averages 15.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. 
> Kionna Jeter dropped 31 points in the win over Iona to lead all players. Jeter averages 17.7 points, 3.0 steals, 2.8 assists and 1.7 threes per game to lead the Tigers heading into their eighth game of the season. 
> Jeter's 21 steals on the season ranks first in the Colonial Athletic Association.
> Myasia Jones leads both the Tigers and the CAA with a three-point shooting percentage of 55% (11-for-20).
> Towson currently averages 69.9 points per game, while their opponents are outscoring them with an average of 72.7 points per game. 

TEMPLE VS. TOWSON
> The Dec. 4 game will be the first meeting between the two programs.
