PHILADELPHIA - After closing out individual competition at the Penn State Open last month, the Temple fencing squad will compete at the Sacred Heart Invitational in Fairfield, Conn.

Five Owls earned podium finishes in State College, Pa., with freshman Margherita Calderaro taking first in epee. Naomi Ross, Aryana Abtin, and Malia Hee all finished tied for third in their respective events, while Kerry Plunket was narrowly defeated 15-14 in the final round of sabre.

Last year's Sacred Heart Invitational saw Temple go 3-1, defeating NYU, Sacred Heart, and Vassar while falling to Harvard. The Owls dominated in all three wins, conceding just seven bouts in the three matches. The team held Vassar to 26-1, with the foil and sabre squads going undefeated.

Plunkett and Hee went 8-1 and 7-1, respectively, in sabre, with Kennedy Lovelace leading the foil squad 8-1 while earning a perfect 3-0 mark against Harvard. Marielle Luke led the epee squad 6-2.

This year's meet will see the Owls face Brown, NYU, Sacred Heart, and Vassar in Fairfield, Conn., with the meet scheduled to last all day.
