Fencing Goes Undefeated at Sacred Heart Invitational

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Temple fencing squad went 4-0 at the Sacred Heart Invitational, defeating NYU, Brown, Sacred Heart, and Vassar to close out December competition.

Meet Summary
> The Owls opened the meet with a 22-5 defeat of NYU before downing Brown 20-7.
> In the third match of the day, Temple earned a 22-5 victory of host Sacred Heart.
> The team finished the day with a 21-6 win over Vassar. All three squads went undefeated on the day.

Individual Highlights
> Freshman Zoe Turner led the team in wins, going 9-1 on the day.
> Fellow sabrists Kerry Plunkett and Malia Hee went 7-1, with both losing just five bouts all day.
> In foil, Aryana Abtin and Kennedy Lovelace went undefeated at 8-0, while Megan Ross went 6-1.
> Juior Marielle Luke led the epee squad 6-1, with Margherita Calderaro and Sarah Park going 5-2.

"Today was a good end to the fall semester," head coach Dr. Nikki Franke said. "The matches were closer than the scores reflected but the girls were resilient. All three squads went undefeated, which was one of our goals for the meet. I'm pleased with the progress that the team is making so we're looking forward to the spring and getting to the main part of the season."
