No. 10 Fencing Upsets No. 2 Northwestern, Goes 4-2 Overall on Day One

EVANSTON, Ill. - The 10th-ranked Temple fencing team earned a 14-13 upset of the second-ranked Northwestern Huskies to highlight a 4-2 performance on day one of the Northwestern Duals. The Owls (13-7) also defeated Stanford, UC San Diego and Incarnate Word.

Day One Summary
> The sabre squad went 9-0 as the Owls defeated Incarnate Word 21-6 to start the day, but Temple suffered a tough loss to #8 Duke, 17-10, in its second match.
> The Owls rebounded in a big way, using a 7-2 sabre team win for a 14-13 upset of #2 Northwestern.
> After a 16-11 win vs. Stanford, the Owls made it four total wins with an 18-9 defeat of UC San Diego, thanks largely to an 8-1 win for the foil team.
> Temple came up against top-ranked Notre Dame in its final match of the day, losing 17-10 but getting an impressive, 5-4 win by the sabre squad.
> For the day, the sabre squad finished 5-1 to lead the Owls.
