Fencing to Honor Seniors at Annual Temple Invitational on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - Five seniors will be honored midday at the annual Temple Fencing Invitational, set for Sunday, Feb. 24 in McGonigle Hall. The seventh-ranked Owls (21-7) will compete against five other teams starting at 8:30 a.m. and lasting until 4:45 p.m.
Meet Information
> All of Temple's action will be featured LIVE on OwlsTV, with one stream available for Strip 1 and another for Strip 2.
> Meet results will be posted after each round on the 2019 Temple Invitational Results site.
> The Senior Day recognition is set for 1:30 p.m., after a half hour break for lunch following the third round of competition.
> The Owls' featured match of the day is against #9 Penn at 1:45 p.m.
> Temple will start the day against #4 Penn State at 8:30 a.m., followed by Johns Hopkins at 10 a.m. In the third round, the Owls will face St. John's at 11:30 a.m.
> Following the Penn match at 1:45, Temple will conclude the day against #10 Princeton at 3:15 p.m.
> The meet features men's and women's teams from Penn, Princeton, Penn State, St. John's and Johns Hopkins. Temple fields only a women's team, while Stevens will have only a men's team in action.
Scouting Temple
> After taking down multiple higher-ranked teams in January and early February, the Owls moved from #10 in the CollegeFencing360 Coaches Poll to #7 when the second poll was released on Feb. 8.
> Most recently, the Owls went 3-0 at the NJIT Invitational on Feb. 9, taking down host NJIT along with Stevens and Wagner.
> Temple would have to go 5-0 at its own meet to match last year's win total of 26, but the Owls faced five fewer teams overall in 2018-19 than they did in 2017-18.
> Juniors Malia Hee and Kerry Plunkett of the sabre squad are leading the team in wins at 44-13 and 44-14, respectively.
> For epee, senior Ally Micek is 37-28 and senior Fiona Fong is 32-24.
> The foil squad is led by junior Kennedy Lovelace (38-23), freshman Aryana Abtin (37-24) and senior Auset Muhammad (36-28).

Fiona Fong (Epee • Warren, N.J. • Psychology)
> Is this year's epee squad leader.
> Comes into Sunday's meet with a season record of 32-24 and a career record of 123-96.
> Is a three-time All-NIWFA honoree, making the first team for a second time in 2018 after tying for third at the NIWFA Championships.
> Placed 17th in the 2018 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional.
> Has been named to Temple's President's Honor Roll for the last two years for having a GPA above a 3.5.
Ally Micek (Epee • Houston, Texas • Marketing)
> Is leading the epee squad in wins for a second year in a row and comes into Sunday's meet with a season record of 37-28 and a career record of 126-90.
> Placed 14th overall at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional in 2017 and 20th in 2018.
> Led epee with a mark of 9-6 at this year's Philadelphia Invitational, getting a pair of wins in the Owls' upsets of #2 Northwestern and #5 Ohio State while also getting two wins vs. #3 Columbia.
> Went 10-1 on day two of the Northwestern Duals including 3-0 marks vs. #5 Ohio State and UNC.
Auset Muhammad (Foil • Chicago, Ill. • Environmental Studies)
> Is 36-28 for the year and 181-124 in her career.
> Earned back-to-back third-place finishes at the NIWFA Championships the past two years to earn All-NIWFA First Team honors.
> Placed 13th at the 2018 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional after placing 23rd as a sophomore...Tied for third at the 2016 Temple Open.
> Led the foil squad with a 17-9 record at this year's Northwestern Duals.
Blessing Olaode (Sabre • Maplewood, N.J. • Neuroscience)
> Is the team captain in 2018-19 and the sabre squad leader for a second year in a row.
> Has a season record of 26-25 and an impressive career mark of 145-88.
> Placed fifth at the 2018 Mid-Atlantic/South Regional and was an institutional alternate for the NCAA Championships.
> Placed 15th as a sophomore at regionals and 11th as a freshman.
> Turned in a 32nd-place performance at the January NAC, her best ever, while also helping lead sabre to a second-place team finish.
> Placed sixth for Nigeria at the 2018 Senior African Championships.
> Has been named to Temple's Athletic Director's Honor Roll each year for having a GPA of 3.0 or above.
Jessica Rockford (Sabre • Livingston, N.J. • Human Resource Management)
> Has a 26-11 record this season and a 142-66 career record heading into the weekend.
> Was an undefeated 7-0 at this year's Sacred Heart Invitational and went 5-0 at the Penn State Invitational.
> Has twice represented the Owls at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, earning a finish as high as 12th in 2016.
> Posted an 11-2 mark at the 2018 Northwestern Duals and placed fifth at the 2017 Temple Open.
Also pictured is Quinn Duwelius, a redshirt junior who will take a fifth year due to injury and complete her eligibility in 2019-20.
