Cold Second Half Trips Women's Basketball at UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. — Cold second half shooting doomed the Temple women's basketball team, as the Owls fell 62-54 on the road at second place UCF on Saturday afternoon. The loss dips Temple to 9-17 overall (5-8 AAC), while UCF improves to 22-5 (11-3 AAC).

Keys to the Game
> In a tight game, Temple shot just 30.8 (6-30) in the second half, including only 11.8% (2-17) in the fourth quarter.
> UCF shot 44% from the field, negating a 38-36 Temple rebounding advantage.
> The first quarter went back and forth before Temple took a four point edge after 10 minutes.
> Temple led by as many as eight in the second quarter, before succumbing to a 12-1 run that put UCF up by four at the half.
> The Owls got some back to close the gap to 50-49 after three, but managed just five fourth quarter points to seal their fate.

Individual Highlights
> Graduate Alliya Butts finished with a team-high 14 points, adding four rebounds and a pair of steals.
> Sophomore Mia Davis had 12 points with six rebounds, all defensive.
> Freshman Alexa Williamson notched nine points, tying for team-high honors with seven rebounds.
> Junior Shantay Taylor finished with six points and seven rebounds, while senior Lena Niang and sophomore Emani Mayo both added five points.
> Freshman Marissa Mackins rounded out the box score with a career-best five assists.

First Quarter
> A fast paced first frame saw nine lead changes before Temple ended up on top.
> After the teams went back and forth in the opening minutes, UCF pushed ahead 18-15 with under two minutes to play.
> Temple responded with a 6-0 run to close the frame up 22-18.

Second Quarter
> The Owls pushed their lead to eight early in the frame, on threes from Butts and Niang.
> UCF closed it to five points before a Williamson lay-up made it 32-25 Owls with 5:00 on the clock.
> From there, Temple was held to just one point the rest of the frame, as UCF went on a 12-1 surge to lead 37-33 at the break.

Third Quarter
> Temple outscored UCF 16-13 in the frame to get three back.
> The Owls forced five Knights turnovers in the quarter, making it a one point game (50-49) after three.

Fourth Quarter
> UFC rattled off a 6-0 run to start the fourth, pushing the advantage to 56-49.
> The Owls got a Butts three to cut it to 56-52, but went cold on offense following the triple, despite playing solid defense.
> After the Knights went back up by seven, a Davis bucket cut it to 59-54, but that was the last score the Owls would get, as UCF closed out the victory on the free throw line.
