Visiting Tulsa Thwarts Fourth Quarter Comeback from Women's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team couldn't complete a second-half rally, falling 64-61 to visiting Tulsa on Wednesday night at McGonigle Hall. Temple falls to 9-18 (5-9 AAC) with the loss, while the Hurricane move to 12-15 (6-8 AAC).

Keys to the Game
> The Owls rallied back from an 11-point second half deficit, but couldn't keep the momentum over the final minutes of play.
> Despite shooting 44% from the field and 50% from three in the second half, the Owls were out-shot for the game, 37.7% to 35.4%.
> Temple led on the glass 43-41, but racked up 18 turnovers in a messy 40 minutes. 
> The Owls scored just 22 first half points, including only seven in the second quarter and trailed by 11 at the break.
> Temple outscored Tulsa 21-13 in the third quarter, and then continued the rally into the fourth, tying the game at 52-52 with five minutes to play. 
> Tulsa responded with a 6-0 run that proved to be the final separation the Hurricane needed to close the game.

Individual Highlights
> Sophomore Mia Davis notched her 11th double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
> Freshman Marissa Mackins tied her career high with 19 points, while graduate Alliya Butts added 12 points and six assists.
> Sophomore Emani Mayo chipped in with six points and five boards.
> Freshman Alexa Williamson had six rebounds, while sophomore Breanna Perry added five.

First Quarter
> Back-and-forth action opened the first quarter, as each team had slim leads. 
> With the Owls up 15-13, Tulsa ended the frame on a 7-0 surge to lead 20-15 after one.

Second Quarter
> The Hurricane continued their run into the second, pushing the advantage to 27-17 early.
> Temple got the lead down to 28-22 on a pair of Butts free throws, but again Tulsa closed the quarter on a run.
> The Hurricane scored the final five points of the frame to lead 33-22 at the break.

Third Quarter
> Temple outscored Tulsa 21-13 to get the lead down to three.
> A three point play from Emani Mayo sparked a 7-1 run that closed the gap to 37-29.
> Tulsa answered to get it back to 39-29, but the Owls finished the frame on a 14-5 surge to cut it to 46-43.

Fourth Quarter
> Temple battled all the way back to tie, 52-52, on a three point play from Davis with under six to play.
> After a defensive stop, the Owls had a chance to take their first lead since the first quarter, but an offensive foul gave the ball back to Tulsa, who rattled off a 6-0 run to lead 58-52.
> Temple got the lead down to two on a put-back from Shantay Taylor, but Tulsa finished out the win at the free throw line.
