Women's Basketball Hosts Wichita State for Senior Day on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team will close out its home slate on Saturday, hosting Wichita State at 2:00 p.m. on ESPN3. The Owls will honor the storied career of Alliya Butts before the "Senior Day" game.

THE OWLS
> Temple is 9-18 overall (5-9 AAC) including 5-4 at home and 3-14 on the road.
> After starting the conference slate 0-5, the Owls are 5-4 in their last nine.
> Sophomore Mia Davis leads Temple on both ends of the floor, averaging 19.0 points to go along with 9.3 rebounds per game.
> Graduate student Alliya Butts is second on the team in scoring, with 15.2 points per game, while leading the Owls with averages of 4.6 assists and 2.1 steals per outing.
> Freshman Marissa Mackins averages 8.0 points per game, while sophomore Emani Mayo (5.1 ppg) and senior Lena Niang (5.0 ppg) also chip in.
> Post players, junior Shantay Taylor (4.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg) and freshman Alexa Williamson (5.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg) also aid the offense.
> As a team, Temple is shooting 38.2% from the field and 30.1% from long range.

LAST TIME OUT: Tulsa 64, Temple 61
> Temple couldn't complete a second-half rally, falling 64-61 to visiting Tulsa on Wednesday night at McGonigle Hall. 
> The Owls rallied back from an 11-point second half deficit, but couldn't keep the momentum over the final minutes of play.
> Despite shooting 44% from the field and 50% from three in the second half, the Owls were out-shot for the game, 37.7% to 35.4%.
> Temple led on the glass 43-41, but racked up 18 turnovers in a messy 40 minutes. 
> Mia Davis notched her 11th double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
> Marissa Mackins tied her career high with 19 points, while Alliya Butts added 12 points and six assists.

SCOUTING  WICHITA STATE
> Wichita State enters Saturday's game with an 11-16 overall record, including a 4-10 mark in conference play.
> The Shockers have lost three straight games, most recently falling 84-47 against #2 UConn on Tuesday.
> Carla Bernaud leads Wichita State in scoring at 9.9 points per game, while Sabrina Lozada-Cabba adds 8.8 points and a team-best 5.7 rebounds per outing.
> Jaida Hampton contributes 6.8 points per game, while Seraphine Bastin averages 6.5 points and a team-best 3.2 assists per game.
> Raven Prince (5.7 ppg) rounds out the regular starting line-up
> As a team, Wichita State shoots 38.8% from the field and 27.5% from three.
> The Shockers give up just 61.9 points per game.

LAST TIME OUT: UConn 84, Wichita State 47
> Visiting UConn, the second ranked team in the nation, dominated Wichita State on Tuesday.
> With the Shockers up 5-4, the Huskies went on a 23-0 run to lead 27-5 after one, with their lead never falling below 20 the rest of the way.
> The Shockers shot 37% from the field and committed 20 turnovers which led to 27 UConn points.
> Carla Bremaud collected her 13th game in double-figures with a team-high 15 points.
> Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage and Raven Prince each tallied eight points in the loss.

TEMPLE VS. WICHITA STATE
> Wichita State joined the American Athletic Conference last season and the teams have met three times since then.
> The Owls and Shockers split the two meetings in 2017-18, as Wichita State won the regular season game, which took place on their home court, 88-81.
> Temple got revenge less than a month later, winning 72-59 in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
> This season, the Owls won their earlier meeting, 65-40, at Wichita State.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Temple 65, Wichita State 40
> Temple turned a close game into a blowout, allowing just one fourth quarter point, as the Owls knocked off Wichita State, 65-40, on the road.
> Temple led by just six points heading into the fourth quarter before an outstanding defensive effort sealed the win.
> The Owls allowed just one Wichita State point — a free throw with 5:38 on the clock, while forcing the Shockers to go 0-11 from the field. The one point quarter was a Temple record.
> Wichita State led early in the game, but Temple built an 11-point advantage midway through the second quarter.
> The Shockers made it a one-point game before Temple pushed it back to six after three quarters, setting up the stout defensive effort in the fourth.
> Mia Davis racked up her seventh double-double of the season, leading the Owls with a career-high 30 points  to go with 13 rebounds.
> Alliya Butts finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
> For Wichita State, Carla Bremaud finished with 12 points, while Seraphine Bastin added 11 with seven boards.
> Raven Prince pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.
