Brian Perkins Named Schuylkill Navy Coach of the Year

2.26.19 | Men's Crew

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple men's crew head coach Brian Perkins will be presented with Coach of the Year honors by the Schuylkill Navy of Philadelphia this Saturday.

In three seasons as head coach for Temple crew, Perkins has brought the Owls more Philadelphia, national, and international recognition. In his most recent season, the 2018 Owls swept the Dad Vail Regatta -- winning the varsity eight, second varsity eight, and freshman eight races. Perkins' varsity eight won the famed event in stunning fashion -- recording a Dad Vail Record time of 5:34.409.

Temple's 2018 heavyweight eight crew also brought the Owls back to the banks of the River Thames, as the team competed in the 2018 Henley Royal Regatta, making the trip for the first time since 1994.

Perkins was named the head coach of the Owls in June of 2016, after serving as an assistant coach under Dr. Gavin White for seven seasons. An accomplished former Owl himself, Perkins won the Dad Vail twice while wearing Cherry and White.

Perkins will be given the honor this Saturday at the Schuylkill Navy's annual awards event. It will be held at The Discovery Center along the waterfront in Fairmount Park. Tickets can be purchased online at RegattaCentral.
