Indoor Track and Field Regular Season Wraps Up at Valentine Invitational Friday

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University track and field team will send a full squad up to Boston this weekend to compete at the Valentine Invitational on Feb. 8-9. The Owls will get their final marks of the regular season on the 200m banked track at Boston University this Friday and Saturday as they prepare for the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 22.
 
About the Valentine Invitational
> The meet will be hosted at the Track and Tennis Center at Boston University. Races will be held on the 200m fixed bank oval track that is similar to the highly regarded Armory track.
> 19 Owls will make the trip to compete in some of their top events at the Valentine Invitational this weekend. The meet will kick off on Friday, Feb. 8 with Sydney Williams competing in the 60m hurdles at noon. The field events will debut near after, with Kayla Nesbitt-McEwen and Aisha Brown in the high jump along with Nesbitt-McEwen, Jamie Drayton and Candus Burks in the long jump. Burks will then compete in the triple jump following the conclusion of the long jump.
> The 400m will begin at 1:25 p.m. and will feature Madison Beecher, Mallorie Smith and Marissa White. At 3:00 p.m., the trio will return to the track to compete in the 200m along with Williams.
> Millie Howard, Ashton Dunkley and McKenzie Gelvin will compete in the 1000m at 3:50 p.m. Next, Kira Von Ehren, Keegan Simonsen and Helene Gottlieb will represent Temple in the mile.
> The Owls will run two squads in the 4x400 relay starting at 7:15 p.m. Following, Shay Strawser, Lexi Walsh, Lucy Jones, Michelle Joyce and Katie Leisher will wrap up the evening in the 3K at 7:25 p.m.
> The Cherry and White will be featured in one event on Saturday, when they run the distance medley relay for the second time this season. Last time the Owls ran the DMR, they shattered the school record by over 13 seconds. Temple will put two squads into the event that is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
 
Last Time Out
> The Owls are coming off a successful weekend on the track this past weekend at the Villanova Invitational. Utilizing the fast track at Ocean Breeze, three Owls set new personal bests and eight placed in the top-10 to wrap up one of the final meets before the American Athletic Conference Championships.
> Williams set the tone for the day early when she put on a strong performance in the 60m hurdle prelims to advance her to the finals. In the finals, the sophomore finished fifth overall, clocking a time of 8.87 to finish only .05 of a second off of her personal best.
> Smith raced well in the 400m, finishing 12th overall with a time of 58.95. Beecher also came out strong to finish the quarter mile in 59.51 and place 16th.
> Dunkley highlighted the day for the Owls in the 800m run. The senior illustrated her hard work and training from the season, finishing sixth and clocking a time of 2:11.16. Dunkley shaved over three seconds off of her previous time of 2:14.30 to reset her personal record in the event.
> The Owls put multiple fast times on the board in the 200m dash. Finishing first for Temple and sixth overall was White, who ran her fastest time in a Temple uniform at 25.23. Joining her in the top-10 was Beecher, who lapped the track in 25.50.
 
On the Lookout
> Three Owls currently rank in the top-10 of the Conference in the 800m. Gottlieb sits third with a time of 2:10.71, the fastest time in Cherry and White this season. After an outstanding performance last weekend, Dunkley now ranks fifth overall with a time of 2:11.16. Howard is just behind her teammates at seventh in the AAC after clocking 2:11.82.
> Grace Moore currently holds the fastest mile time for the Owls at 4:48.90, good for the second fastest in the American. Howard's 4:53.14 currently ranks her fifth in the AAC as well.
> Moore sits at the very top of the conference in the 3K after resetting her PR to 9:26.12. Von Ehren joins her towards the top of the ranks, currently at fourth with a time of 9:39.50.
> Von Ehren's race last weekend broke her into the top-10 in the 5000m, currently ranking sixth with a time of 17:09.45. Jones joins her in the rankings with a time of 17:25.87, good for 10th in the AAC.
> Temple's record-breaking DMR still remains the fastest in the conference with a time of 11:23.03.
> In the field, Brown ranks as the third best high jumper in the American with a mark of 1.75m (5'8.75").
