Track & Field Continues Outdoor Slate at Rider Invite

PHILADELPHIA – After a weekend hiatus from competition, the majority of the Temple University track and field team will be back in action Saturday, April 20 as they head to Lawrenceville, N.J. to compete at the Rider Invite. Later in the day, three Owls will head to Lewisburg, Pa. to compete at the Bison Outdoor Classic, as the whole squad looks to improve upon their best marks of the season with conference action on the horizon.
About the Rider Invite
> The one-day event will take place on the campus of Rider University at the Michael P. Brady Track and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am. Sophomores Candus Burks and Kayla Nesbitt-McEwen will be in action first for the Owls in the long jump, which is set to being following the men at 11 am. The women's high jump will also begin after the men around 11 am featuring sophomore Aisha Brown. Following, sophomore Julianne Foering will throw the javelin at roughly 12:30 pm.
> On the track, Temple will run its first 4x100m relay of the season at 12:30 pm. Following, the freshman trio of Shay Strawser, Keegan Simonsen and Lexi Walsh is set to compete in the 1500m at 12:45 pm.
> At 1:30 pm, sophomore Sydney Williams will race the 100m hurdles. Following, freshman standout Marissa White will be joined by sophomore Mallorie Smith to race the 400m dash at 1:55 pm.
> Nesbitt-McEwen and junior Madison Beecher will both compete in the 100m for the first time this season at 2:20 pm. At 2:55, senior Ashton Dunkley and sophomore McKenzie Gelvin will work together in the 800m.
> Williams will be back in action at 3:30 pm to race the 400m hurdles, and will be joined by Brown. In the 200m, five Owls will race their final individual races of the day at 4 pm in Beecher, Smith, White, Nesbitt-McEwen and Burks.
> To conclude the action at Rider, Temple will race a pair of 4x400m relays at 6 pm.
About the Bison Outdoor Classic
> Three Owls will head to Bucknell University to compete in the 1500m at the Bison Outdoor Classic. Senior Katie Leisher will get the day started at 2 pm in the unseeded section of the event, followed by junior Millie Howard and sophomore Lucy Jones at 8:05 pm.
Last Time Out
> The Owls are coming off of a successful split weekend of competition two weeks ago, when the distance squad traveled to Raleigh, N.C. for the Raleigh Relays and the sprints, jumps and throws went to Oxford, Miss. to get their marks at the Ole Miss Classic.
> Gottlieb had another standout performance at the Raleigh Relays, this time straying from the 800m and competing in the 1500m on Friday evening. The sophomore shined in the event, finishing seventh in the massive 154-person field with a time of 4:20.29 and crushing her PR by eight seconds to run the fastest time in the conference this season. Her performance earned her the title of Under Armour/OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week for the week of April 1.
> Leisher and Joyce raced a late-night 10K to wrap up a solid day of competition for the Owls. The distance duo earned a spot in the top-10, with Joyce finishing eighth with a time of 35:48.42 and Leisher finishing the 10K in 35:54.27 to place 10th.
> The Ole Miss Classic was highlighted by multiple season-bests and another high jump gold medal from Brown. The sophomore emerged victorious in her signature event, taking the title off of a tie-breaker after clearing 1.76m (5' 9.25") in the fewest attempts.
> On the track, Williams ran her fastest 100m hurdles race of the season, finishing 12th with a time of 14.66. Later in the meet, she also ran her best time of the year in the 400m hurdles and was just .3 off of her all-time best in the event. The sophomore ran the long hurdles in 1:03.86, good for fifth overall. Brown also competed in the hurdles, finishing 13th with a time of 1:06.83.
> The 400m duo of Smith and Dunkley put on a strong showing in the quarter mile, each earning a spot in the top-10. Smith ran her fastest time of the season in 58.36 to finish sixth, and Dunkley ran the event for the first time this season in 60.21.
> Beecher raced well in the 200m, missing her season-fastest mark by just .02 to finish 17th with a time of 25.23. Nesbitt-McEwen also shined in the event, breaking 26 for her first time at Temple to run a PR of 25.92, good for 25th overall.
> Nesbitt-McEwen had another good weekend in the triple jump, advancing to finals to finish seventh overall with a mark of 11.65m.
