PHILADELPHIA-- Temple gymnastics' Jaylene Everett has been named to the 2018-19 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area At-Large Team. The junior is one of twelve student-athletes to earn this honor. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Everett has been outstanding, both in the gym and in the classroom, for the Owls during her junior campaign. Athletically, she earned three vault titles this year and a career-best of 9.875 on the event. She has also posted a season-best of 9.875 on floor this year and won one title on the event. The Harleysville, Pa. native was named to the ECAC First Team on vault and placed second on the event at the ECAC Championships.

On the academic front, Everett is superb. She studies biology, owning a 3.77 cumulative GPA, and is currently applying to medical school. The junior has been named to the Dean's List four times and earned a 4.0 GPA in fall 2018. This spring, she is taking the rigorous courses of sociology, cell signaling, genetics and biochemistry, and is on track for another 4.0. Everett is supplementing her coursework by gaining professional experience as a volunteer at Temple University Hospital through the At Your Service internship and working in a science research lab.

Everett is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area team by fellow Owls Malia Hee and Kerry Plunkett of the fencing team.
