Men's Crew Sends All Boats to Grand Finals on Dad Vail Day One

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple men's crew team opened the 2019 Dad Vail Regatta with a fantastic performance, sending every boat through to the grand finals. The Owls will look to earn hardware tomorrow, with finals beginning at 1:30 p.m.
A Grand Ole Time
> Temple raced six boats in the opening day, with all six boats qualifying to the top finals.
> The Owls will be in the hunt for seven total medals tomorrow, as the lightweight eight will race in the finals only event.
Varsity Eight
> Temple's top boat battled rough water conditions in the early time trial, but easily qualified to the semifinals, by placing ninth in 5:51.745.
> It was a nail biting semifinal, as the Owls were in third after 500m and needed a late sprint to earn a spot in the grand finals.
> Temple finished in 6:19.953, just over a second behind Drexel, and edged third-place Michigan by 0.051 seconds to take the last spot in the grands.
> The Owls also outpaced Marist, Ohio State, and Minnesota in the race.
Second Varsity Eight
> A fourth place time of 6:02.010 in the time trials advanced the Owls to the semis.
> Temple took second behind only MIT to earn a spot in the grand finals, with their time of 6:32.265 topping Army, Bucknell, Georgia Tech, and Minnesota.
Freshman Eight
> After placing second in the time trials in 5:57.176, Temple won its freshman eight semifinal.
> The Owls' time of 6:49.282 took down Michigan, Army, Grand Valley, Adrian, and Catholic.
Third Varsity Eight
> Temple earned a spot in the grand finals by cruising to a semifinals win.
> Their time of 6:47.240 was nearly five seconds better than the rest of the field, as the Owls beat out Delaware, Drexel, Marietta, and UMass.
Fours
> Both of Temple's fours advances to the grand finals in their events.
> After taking fifth in the opening time trial, Temple's novice four clocked in at 7:52.442 to take second in their semi, behind only Michigan.
> The lightweight four advanced through from their semis with a third place finish in 8:08.732.

> Finals for the Owls begin with the novice four Lindy Cup final at 1:30 p.m.
