Crew's Three Medals Help Temple Win Overall Dad Vail Points Trophy

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple men's crew team won three medals to help the Owls claim the overall points trophy at the 2019 Dad Vail Regatta.

Temple Trophy
> The Temple men combined with the Owls' women to finish first in the overall points standings. The Cherry and White accumulated 52 total points to top second place Drexel (46) and third place Bucknell (32).
> Temple snapped Drexel's six year winning streak for the overall title, claiming its first team title since 1996.

Varsity Eight
> A furious sprint in the final second wasn't enough, as the Owls finished fifth in the heavyweight eight event.
> Temple clocked in at 5:38.995, under four seconds out of the medal hunt.

Lightweight Eight
> Temple's lightweight eight grabbed silver in an ultra-competitive race, finishing in 5:39.571, just 2.735 behind Mercyhurst for gold.

Second Varsity Eight
> With less than four seconds separating the third through sixth place boats, Temple's 2V was the unlucky sixth, finishing in 5:52.247.

Third Varsity Eight
> A tight race from start to finish saw Temple's third varsity eight take bronze.
> The Owls were just just 2.477 seconds out of gold, and a miniscule .113 off the silver medal pace.

Freshman Eight
> Temple's freshman eight picked up the first Owls medal of the day, a silver. The crew clocked in at 5:48.331, just over three seconds off the pace of first place Drexel.

Fours
> Both of Temple's fours grabbed sixth place finishes in their respective races.
> The freshman four clocked in at 6:53.729, while the lightweight four finished in 7:00.795.
