ITHACA, N.Y. – The Temple Golf team opened its 2019-20 season at the Cornell Invitational Saturday with many new faces among its starting five.  With only sophomore Conor McGrath as a returning starter, the Owls struggled over their first 36 holes and sit 13th among 16 teams in the two-day 54-hole stroke play event being held at the 6,904-yard par 71 Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University.

Recapping the Day

> Junior Dawson Anders, coming off a strong summer, led the way for the Cherry and White.  He shot a five-over 147 for the day and is tied for 20th overall.
> McGrath, who was next for the Owls, one shot back of Anders (148) and tied for 26th overall among the 90 competitors.
> Two freshmen, Graham Chase and Danny Nguyen, were third and fourth respectively for Temple with a 152 and 153.   Chase had an eagle on his first day as an Owl, holed out from the middle of the fairway on his second shot at the par four 11th hole during his second round.
> Conor's brother, Liam, a senior on the squad, rounded out the five with a 163 while Buddy Hansen (155) and Aaron Tobin (161) played as individuals.

The Field
> Columbia, with a 575, leads the field with a healthy nine-stroke lead over host Cornell (584).
> Dartmouth and St. Bonaventure are tied for third with 585s while Bucknell (586) and Penn (588) are not far back.
> Temple is 24 strokes back with a 599, but are only three strokes behind 10th place Canisius and Siena (596).
> Columbia's Daniel Core leads the field with a four-under 138.  St. Bonaventure's Christian Chapman is two strokes off the pace with a two-under 140.

Quotable
> "We are young.  We have a lot to learn and once these new kids get used to competing week in and week out we will see some good things. We definitely have the talent." – Temple coach Brian Quinn.
