Men's Soccer Returns to TSC to Face Delaware Tuesday Night

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's soccer squad (1-3) will return under the lights of the Temple Sports Complex on Tuesday, Sept. 17 to host the Delaware Blue Hens (1-1-2) in a 7 p.m. match-up. The Owls look to carry their momentum from Friday-night's victory, when they shutout the Lafayette Leopards, 3-0.
Scouting the Owls
> Temple is coached by Brian Rowland in his second year at the helm of the program. So far this year, he has led the squad to a 1-3 record against a contingent of perennially talented opponents.
> Temple has proved itself as a force to be reckoned with over the first four games. The Owls' three losses came from teams that were recognized in last week's United Soccer Coaches Poll, with Georgetown coming in at No. 5 and Rutgers and Villanova each receiving votes. The path for the Cherry and White continues to be paved with challenging opponents, as four more teams on Temple's schedule also showed up in the polls last week in No. 16 UCF, No. 20 Louisville, No. 22 SMU and UConn (RV).
> Senior captain Lukas Fernandes has followed suit of his standout junior year performance to get the 2019 season started for the Owls. He currently leads the team in goals (2), points (4), shots (15) and shots on goal (8) in three games played and notched his first-ever collegiate brace to propel Temple to victory this past Friday.
> Sophomore Mickael Borger is the other Owl in the Temple scorebook with a goal after heading in the first tally of the season on Friday. The sophomore also played a pivotal role in the backline for Temple, helping the squad to their first shutout of the season alongside Pierre Cayet, Brandon Johnson and Esteban Suarez.
> Senior Simon Lefebvre has protected the Owls in net for all 360 minutes of action so far this season. In four games played, he's saved 13 shots and allowed five goals against for a 1-3 records between the posts.
Scouting the Blue Hens
> Delaware is coached by Ian Hennessy in his 14th season at the helm of the program. The Blue Hens are coming off of a 2-2 draw in their CAA opener at Northeastern have accumulated a 1-1-3 record so far this season.
> Sophomore Timo Hummrich currently leads the Blue Hen offense with three goals for six points in his four games played. His first two goals came as converted penalty kicks last Monday in a 3-3 tie against Pitt, and he continued the trend with a PK against Northeastern on Saturday. He has also fired off seven shots with four on frame so far this season. Rex Twum is right behind Hummrich on the leaderboard, notching two goals for four points in four games.
> Sophomore Renan Thomazo has defended the Blue Hens between the pipes for all 400 minutes of the season so far. In four games, he has allowed 10 goals against and posted 21 saves for a 1-1-2 record.
Last Time Out
> The Owls secured their first win of the season in dominant fashion on Friday night, blanking Lafayette and handing the Leopards their first loss of the season at the Temple Sports Complex. Fernandes notched his first-ever collegiate brace and Borger scored his first goal in Cherry and White to propel the Owls to victory.
> Borger lit the fire for Temple's dominating offense when he knocked in the first goal of the season in a statement win. Positioning himself well inside the 18, he got on the receiving end of a rocketed free kick off the boot of Cohen to head the ball past the Lafayette keeper in the 23rd minute.
> Fernandes, who earned a spot on the AAC Weekly Honor roll for his performance, built off of Borger's goal and capitalized on Temple's momentum just two minutes later.
