Women's Cross Country Competes at 25th Annual Meet of Champions

BRONX, N.Y.—The Temple women's cross country team finished fifth overall in the 25th annual Iona College Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park Friday morning in the Bronx. Michelle Joyce led the Owls with a tenth-place finish in the 5K as she crossed the line at 18:19.2.
About the Meet of Champions
> The Owls were one of 16 teams racing through Van Cortlandt Park Friday morning. Amongst the 16 total teams were 11 Division I programs, three Division II squads and two Division III schools.Â
> Columbia snatched first place with a convincing performance as the Lions topped second place Cornell by more than 40 points.Â
Race Notes
> Erinn Stenman-Fahey (18:41.5), Grace Moore (18:46.7) and Millie Howard (18:49.0) trailed Joyce to finish 20th, 23rd and 26th, respectively. The senior trio worked to stay together on the course, but two opponents followed both Stenman-Fahey and Moore across the finish line to break up the pack.Â
> Sophomore Lexi Walsh was the fifth runner in the Cherry and White to finish the 5K, clocking in at 19:05.8, while Helene Gottlieb placed sixth with her 19:12.4 finish.Â

> "This was the first race where we had everybody competing together and we had some rust to shake off with some of our girls as we got back into the swing of things," said head coach James Snyder. "But I think Michelle Joyce really stepped up for us today. If we can adapt our thought process to be a little more aggressive with how we race collectively, I think we're going to be in a really good position when we head to Ohio State."
