Golf Tied for Eighth at River Run Collegiate

DAVIDSON, N.C. – It was a tale of two rounds for the Temple Golf team Monday in the first day of competition at the River Run Collegiate.  The Owls played the morning 18 well, shooting a three-over 291 on the par 72, 7317-yard River Run Country Club. The afternoon, however, took its toll on the young squad as Temple posted a 305, moving from a tie for third to a tie for eighth in the 18-team tournament.

Recapping the Day
> Junior Dawson Anders led the way for Temple, shooting a two-under 70 in his first round before struggling in the afternoon with a five-over 77.  He did card an eagle on the 18th hole in the morning and is tied for 21st with a three-over 147.
> Sophomore Conor McGrath is tied with Anders, playing consistent golf with rounds of 73 and 74.  His eight birdies on the day were the most by an Owl.
> Freshman Graham Chase was early as consistent as McGrath, shooting a 73 and 75 to finish tied for 29th overall.  
> Senior Liam McGrath (75-81, 156) and freshman Danny Nguyen (79-79, 158) rounded out the team's lineup in 66th and 72nd place, respectively.
>Playing as an individual, Anthony Barr tied for 79th after shooting an 83 and 78 for 161.

The Field
> James Madison (563) owns an 11-stroke lead over second place Charlotte (574).  Temple at 596 is tied with Mercer and just nine shots from fifth place Radford (587).   
> Charlotte's Trey Tobias, playing as an individual, leads the field by three strokes with a nine-under 135.
> There will be one final round on Tuesday.
