Women’s Cross Country Travels to Ohio State for Buckeye Preview

9.27.19 | Women's Cross Country

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University women's cross country team is set to compete at the Buckeye Preview, hosted by nationally ranked Ohio State University on Saturday, Sept. 28. The 6K race is slated for a 9:45 a.m. start time at Ohio State Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio.

About the Buckeye Preview
> The Buckeye Preview will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Ohio State Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio. There will be a men's 8K race at 9:00 a.m. prior to the women's 6K race at 9:45 a.m.
> The Cherry and White will be competing alongside four nationally-ranked opponents including No. 7 Michigan, No. 11 Michigan State, No. 16 Penn State and No. 21 Ohio State. Also in attendance will be Illinois, Miami (OH), Northwestern, Rutgers, Toledo, Vanderbilt and reigning Division II champions Grand Valley State.

From the Coach
> "The biggest goal for our women is to try to close up our one-to-five and one-to-seven spread," stated head coach James Snyder. "For us to be as successful as we can be, it is going to be determined by the proximity we can stay to each other so we are going to take more of a group approach with our tactics. I think all seven women that we are racing this weekend stand a really good chance to be able to race with and compete amongst one another. And how close that pack can stay to the front of the race is going to determine how successful we can be.
> When asked about competing against nationally ranked competitors, Snyder said "it is a really good chance for us to measure up. The big thing I spoke with our team about is 'controlling the controllables,' so whoever our opponents show up with, it isn't going to dictate the race we are going to run. It is simply going to be other factors and other colors that are going to be out there with us but we've got to be able to maintain a narrow focus and accomplish what we came to accomplish, irregardless of what's going on around us."
> Coach Snyder will be running into a familiar face on the course Saturday morning in Columbus. Grand Valley State assistant cross country coach Aaron Watson served as the Owls' assistant coach alongside Snyder in 2013 prior to returning to his alma mater the following season.

Last Time Out
> At last weekend's Iona Meet of Champions in the Bronx, N.Y., the Cherry and White worked together to earn fifth overall out of a total of 16 teams.
> Michelle Joyce was the first to cross the finish line for Temple. The junior earned 10th overall with her time of 18:19.2.
> Erinn Stenman-Fahey (18:41.5), Grace Moore (18:46.7) and Millie Howard (18:49.0) trailed Joyce to finish 20th, 23rd and 26th, respectively. The senior trio worked to stay together on the course, but two opponents followed both Stenman-Fahey and Moore across the finish line to break up the pack.
> Sophomore Lexi Walsh was the fifth runner in the Cherry and White to finish the 5K, clocking in at 19:05.8, while Helene Gottlieb placed sixth with her 19:12.4 finish.
