STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - In its first team competition of the new year, the Temple fencing team went 4-1 at the Penn State Invitational. The Owls defeated Columbia, Haverford, Penn State, and Duke, while narrowly falling to Yale.

> Temple opened the meet with a 14-13 win over Columbia before a dominating 25-2 defeat of Haverford.
> The Owls had a narrow 14-13 loss to Yale, before rebounding and earning a 14-13 win over host Penn State.
> The team finished the day with a 15-12 victory over Duke.

Individual Highlights
> Junior Marielle Luke went an undefeated 9-0 on the day.
> Both Margherita Calderaro and Zoe Turner were 9-3 in their respective weapons.
> Senior Kennedy Lovelace led the foilists, going 8-6.
> Sabre went 4-1 while epee went 3-2.

"We saw very strong competition in all of our matches, and most could have gone either way. It's been quite a while since we've faced some of these teams, and there were some close matches. The girls were focused, tough, and supportive of each other and it paid off.
