Women’s Basketball Heads to Wichita State on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team looks to win their sixth-straight game as they head to Wichita State for a Sunday afternoon conference matchup at Charles Koch Arena on Jan. 19 at 3 p.m.
THE OWLS
> Temple enters the conference matchup in Wichita 11-6 on the year and 4-1 in American Athletic Conference play.
> The Owls are coming off an exciting 66-63 win over USF to extend their win streak to five.
> Mia Davis leads Temple with 19.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. The junior forward had recently recorded seven-straight double-doubles, but the streak was snapped when she finished with 25 points and eight rebounds against USF.
> Davis totals 11 double-doubles thus far this season, tying for third-most in the country.
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones adds 16.1 points per game for the Owls, along with 5.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
> Asonah Alexander leads both Temple and the American in assists per game with 5.1. Her assist/turnover ratio of 3.31 is not only a conference-best but ranks third in the nation. In the win over SMU, the rookie tallied a career-high 10 assists.
> Marissa Mackins is Temple's third player to average double-digit points with her 13.2 efforts each game. Mackins is the Owls' leading three-point shooter with 47 three-pointers on the year and 34.3% three-point shooting percentage.
> Lena Niang adds 7.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for Temple.
LAST TIME OUT: Temple 66, USF 63
> The Owls won their fifth-straight game on Thursday, Jan. 16 with a 66-63 conference victory over USF in McGonigle Hall.
> After a tight first half where neither team led by more than three points, Temple created separation with a huge 24-13 third quarter.
> The Owls led by as many as 18, before USF mounted a fourth quarter comeback.
> The visitors got the lead down to two points late in the final frame, but Temple held on for the win.
> Temple worked around a 43-31 rebounding edge by USF to out-shoot the Bulls, 43.6% to 37.3%.

> Mariah McCully leads the Shockers with 12.7 points per game. The junior guard is shooting 38.5% from the floor while leading the team in made field goals with 70.
> McCully is also a defensive force for Wichita as she ranks third in the American with 2.4 steals per game. The Shockers are second in the conference with a total of 162 steals on the year.
> Shyia Smith is the leading rebounder for Wichita State, averaging 5.5 per outing.
