Men’s Tennis Opens Home Series Against St. Francis Brooklyn and UConn

PHILADELPHIA - After a tough start to the season at the ITA Kickoff in Gainesville, Fla., the Temple men's tennis team will host two consecutive home matches against the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers and the UConn Huskies. The Owls will open up the home series on Thursday, Jan. 30 before playing their first American Athletic Conference match against UConn on Friday, Jan. 31.
The Match
> The first match against St. Francis will be held at the Legacy Tennis Center, where four of the Owls' 12 home matches are scheduled to take place.
> Temple will play their match against UConn at Kinetix Tennis in Norristown, Pa., which will be home to a pair of Temple men's tennis matches this season.
The Owls
> Temple was swept by both Florida and Fresno State on Jan. 25th and 26th, respectively.
> Temple was 7-2 at home during the 2018-19 season, including 2-1 at the Legacy Tennis Center.
> The last time Temple and St. Francis faced off was during the 2018 spring season, where Temple defeated the Terriers 6-1 in Philadelphia.
> Temple is an undefeated 6-0 against the UConn Huskies since joining the American Athletic Conference in 2013.
Scouting St. Francis Brookyln
> St. Francis Brooklyn is led by head coach Chad Davis, his 12th year at the helm of the program.
> The Terriers finished 1-12 at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season, while going 0-5 in NEC conference play.
> In their first two matches, St. Francis fell to Colgate 6-1 on Saturday, Jan. 25th before Binghamton topped the Terriers 6-1 on Sunday, Jan. 26th.
> Sophomore Luis Foix Sotos is the only Terrier to win a match so far this season with a 2-0 record at singles.
Scouting UConn
> UConn is led by Associate Head Coach Christian Appleman in his first year leading the program.
> UConn ended 2018-19 play with a 7-15 record, dropping both of their AAC matches.
> The Huskies were swept by both St. John's (4-0) and West Point (7-0) in the Army West Point Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 26.
> UConn is led by junior Yelli Zheng and freshmen Rami Scheetz in singles play as they both finished the fall season with six wins each.
> In doubles action, UConn is led by junior Michael John Holtman who had nine wins and was 6-2 when teamed up with sophomore Christian Provenzano.
