Gymnastics Scores Season-High 195.000 to Win Ken Anderson Invitational

PHILADELPHIA—Temple gymnastics defended its home gym on Friday night, posting a season-high 195.000 to take first place in the Ken Anderson Invitational against Bridgeport (194.175) and Ursinus (187.200). The Cherry and White were strong across the board, scoring numerous career-highs and posting season-high team scores on vault and beam.

Vault
> The Owls started off the competition on floor, scoring a season-high 48.975.
> Temple was strong from start to finish on the event. Junior Tori Edwards started the squad off with a 9.675 and senior Jazmyn Estrella followed up with a 9.625.
> Senior Jaylene Everett scored a season-high 9.775 and freshman Madison Brooks earned a career-high 9.825 for her superb vault.
> Junior Faith Leary and sophomore Ariana Castrence tied for the event title with Bridgeport's Julianna Roland, as they each scored a 9.85.

Bars
> Temple continued the competition on bars, posting a 48.3.
> Edwards and Brooks had strong routines for the Cherry and White, scoring 9.625 and 9.65, respectively.
> Junior Delaney Garin and Castrence both tied their career-highs on the event. Garin earned a 9.775 to earn second place and Castrence posted a 9.825 to take first in the event.

Beam
> Temple competed on beam in the third rotation, scoring a 49.1. This is a season-high and the second-highest beam score in program history.
> The Cherry and White were stellar on the event. Junior Jordyn Oster led off the lineup with a season-high 9.75. Brooks was up next for the Owls, tying her career-high with a 9.775.
> Estrella earned a season-high 9.8 for her strong routine. Castrence and Garin both set career-highs on beam. Castrence took second place with a 9.875 and Garin took the event title with an outstanding 9.9.

Floor
> The Owls finished out the evening on floor, posting a 48.625.
> Garin put on solid routine for the Cherry and White, scoring a 9.675. Oster set a season-high on the event with a 9.775.
> Edwards had a stellar performance, earning a season-high 9.8. Leary took the crown on floor with a season-high 9.875 for her dazzling routine.

All-Around
> Castrence competed in the all-around for the Owls, scoring a 39.05 to take first place in the event.

From the Coach
> "I've been telling them that they are a post-season team," said head coach Josh Nilson. "All of the talent is there. We still made some mistakes, but I keep telling them that they don't need to be perfect. I think they believe how good they can be now. We can definitely continue to build on tonight's performance."

Up Next
> The Owls are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 9 as they head across town to ECAC foe Penn for its Pink Meet. The competition is set to begin at 1 p.m.
