Women’s Basketball Looks to Win Third-Straight at ECU Saturday

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team heads to North Carolina Saturday, Feb. 22, as they take on ECU at 1 p.m. for and American Athletic Conference matchup. 

THE OWLS
> Temple arrives in Greenville, N.C. with a record of 15-10 (7-5 AAC). The Owls are currently ranked fourth in the conference. 
> Junior Mia Davis leads Temple with 19.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Her boards per night leads the American. 
> A Cheryl Miller Award top 10 finalist, Davis totals 14 double-doubles on the season to tie for sixth-most in the nation. 
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones adds 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. 
> Marissa Mackins is the third Owl to average double-digit points with 13.4 per night. Mackins leads Temple and ranks second in the American with 68 three-pointers this season. 
> Graduate student Lena Niang is the second leading rebounder for Temple with 5.8 boards per game. Niang nets 7.6 points per game and is the second leading three-point shooter for the Owls. 
> Rounding out the top-five shooters for Temple is sophomore Alexa Williamson, who adds 5.9 points per outing. 
> Freshman Asonah Alexander is the American assists leader with 108 on the year, averaging 4.3 per game. Her assist/turnover ratio of 2.77 ranks first in the conference and 12th in the country.

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 78, Memphis 64
> Temple won their second-straight home game with a 78-64 victory over Memphis on Feb. 19 at the Liacouras Center. 
> A huge first quarter run set the tone for the Owls in the game, as Temple outscored Memphis 23-13.
> Memphis got one back after the second quarter, but the Owls led by nine at the break
> Temple led by as many as 18 points in the second half, as the Owls notched their 15th win of the season.
> For the game, Temple shot 52.3% from the field, holding Memphis to 40.3%. 
> The Owls were out-rebounded 37-31, but racked up 48 points in the paint. 
> Davis tallied a game high 23 points to go along with eight rebounds.
> Jones finished with 21 points adding nine assists.
> Niang 14 points with a career high four assists.
> Shannen Atkinson added eight points while Alexa Williamson netted seven to round out the scoring.

SCOUTING ECU
> ECU sits at 10th in the conference with a record of 7-18 overall and 4-8 in American action. 
> The Pirates lead the AAC in steals, totaling 345 on the year. 
> Lashonda Monk averages 4.08 steals per game as she leads both ECU and the conference with 102 total steals. 
> Monk became the Pirates all-time career steals leader on Feb. 19 as she collected nine steals against Tulsa to improve her career number to 293.
> Monk is also ECU's leading scorer with 14.2 points per outing. 
> Taniyah Thompson adds 13.4 points per game while Dominique Claytor chips in 7.1.
> Claytor pulls down 7.1 rebounds per game to lead the Pirates on the boards. She also ranks second on the team and in the American with 3.24 steals per contest. 

LAST TIME OUT: ECU 59, Tulsa 42
> The Pirates defeated Tulsa, 59-42, on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at home for their second-straight win. 
> ECU was led by Monk with 17 points and nine steals. 
> Thompson added 14 points while Claytor recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. 
> Necole Hope was the third Pirate to score in double-digits with 10. 
> ECU collected 14 steals as Tulsa committed 21 turnovers. 
> While both teams pulled down 40 rebounds, the Pirates outshot Tulsa 37.7% to 25.5% from the floor. 

TEMPLE VS. ECU
> Temple leads 6-1 in the all-time series against the Pirates. 
> The first meeting between the two programs came on Feb. 28, 2015 where the Owls topped ECU 79-69 at McGonigle Hall. 
> That same season, Temple suffered their lone loss to ECU on Mar. 7 in the first round of the American tournament, 77-71.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Temple 84, ECU 62
> The Owls downed the Pirates 84-62 in their last meeting on Jan. 26, 2019 in Philadelphia. 
> Temple's defense held ECU to 30.6 percent (22-72) shooting from the field and just 2-of-15 (13.3%) from long range.
> The Owls broke the game open in the third quarter, using a 12-4 run over a three-minute stretch to extend their advantage to 19 points (57-38).   ECU would get no closer than 15 the remainder of the contest.
> Three-point shooting was big for the Cherry and White as the Owls drained 11 threes, their most since connecting on 13 against DePaul on Dec. 3.
> Temple dished a season-best 20 assists (on 28 baskets) with Butts leading the way with six and Davis passing for a season-high four.
> Alliya Butts scored a season-high 28 points and her five three-pointers (8 attempts) were also a season best. 
> Davis, who notched her seventh double-double on the season, scored 20 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.  It marked her first 20 point game since tallying 22 points against Villanova on Dec. 9. That Villanova game was also the last time a Temple player had scored 20 points in a game.  
> Mackins, who scored a career-high 19 points at Penn on Wednesday, grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds in the win.
> Niang (13) and Emani Mayo (11) also reached double figures for the Owls.
> Nicolette Mayo scored her first collegiate points with the final basket on the game.
