Women’s Basketball Falls at Tulane in Final Regular Season Contest

NEW ORLEANS — The Temple women's basketball team was outscored 17-4 in the third quarter as The Owls fell 53-50 at Tulane Monday evening in the regular season finale. The Owls enter postseason play at 15-14 overall (7-9 AAC) while the Green Wave ends their seven-game losing streak to improve to 13-15 (8-7 AAC).
Keys to the Game
> The Owls were outshot 32.1% to 28.1% from the floor while both teams shot under 30% from long range.
> After Temple held a 35-24 lead at halftime, Tulane outscored the Owls 29-15 in the second half to walk away with the win.
> The game saw nine lead changes, all coming in the third and fourth quarters.
> Temple shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line while the Green Wave finished 68.8% from the charity stripe.
Individual Highlights
> Junior Mia Davis led the Owls with 13 points and recorded six boards.
> Sophomore Marissa Mackins added 10 points in the loss.
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones and sophomore Alexa Williamson tied for a team-high eight rebounds. Jones dished out a team-best five assists alongside her eight points while Williamson chipped in nine points for Temple.
First Quarter
> The Owls opened the game on a 9-0 run, not allowing Tulane to score until the 4:46 mark.
> Temple went on to outscore the Green Wave 18-7 in the first frame as they shot 50% from the floor and 40% from beyond the arc.
> The Owls closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run, capped off by a three from Niang.
> Tulane was held to just 18.8% from the field (3-for-16) in the opening 10 minutes.
Second Quarter
> Williamson and Davis led Temple in the second quarter with seven points apiece.
> The Green Wave had better luck shooting in the second stanza with a field goal percentage of 38.5, including 3-for-6 from three-point range.
> The Owls shot just 33.3% from the floor and were only able to knock down 1-of-5 three-point attempts, but a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line allowed Temple to hold onto their lead heading into halftime.
Third Quarter
> Tulane started the second half on an 10-0 run over the first five minutes of play to cut Temple's lead, 35-34.
> The Owls were unable to connect on any of the 10 field goal attempts in the first half of the third quarter.
> Mackins ended Temple's shooting drought at the 3:49 mark with a driving layup.
> Arsula Clark then put the Green Wave back within one with her layup at 2:01 before giving Tulane their first lead of the game with a pair of free throws.
> Jones responded with her first bucket of the night to put the Owls back on top, but Krystal Freeman knocked down a three on the other end to give Tulane a 41-39 edge heading into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
> Jones started the fourth frame with a layup to tie the game up at 41.
> However, Clark collected two foul shots to give the Green Wave a small advantage.
