2019-20 TUVB Awards: Iron Owl

4/16/2020

The 2019-20 Iron Owl Award goes to Xeryah Salanoa

A sophomore from Honolulu, Hawaii, she is a true utility athlete for Temple, able to play many different positions. Salanoa appeared in 18 matches for the Owls in the fall, playing in 45 total sets. She totaled six aces, with 23 digs and 10 blocks.

Xeryah Salanoa
Xeryah was an easy choice as this year's Iron Owl because of the dedication she has put in during the last two years in developing her strength and power in the weight room. She came in as a freshman with an injury, so she spent much of her first year working on an individual program away from the rest of the team at times. That time alone, really allowed Xeryah to not only develop the strength we were looking for from her, but to also focus on some of the technical components of our lifts.
When she eventually joined the rest of the group she was actually ahead of them in many areas. She didn't waste that time when she was away from the group and she certainly hasn't wasted it while being with the group. Xeryah is a silent leader, or leads by example, and is a pleasure to work with. I look forward to her continuing to help other individuals develop some of the same skills she has acquired over the last few years and being a positive influence during the rest of her career at Temple.
