Temple Mourns the Loss of Former Owl Paul Malatesta

Temple Athletics mourns the loss of former football player Paul Malatesta. He passed away April 27, 2020 at the age of 76.
 
Malatesta, from Upper Gwynedd, Pa., lettered for the Owls from 1962-64.
 
Paul was a 1961 graduate of Berwick High where he played running back and defensive back. After attending Bainbridge Naval Academy he came to Temple and became a two-way starter during the 1963 season. As a versatile running back, cornerback and return man, he helped the Owls to a 5-3-1 record, Temple's first winning season in eight years. In his 1964 senior season he was instrumental in earning a 7-3 record with many outstanding performances on both sides of the ball. 

Upon graduation he joined George Makris' staff as an assistant coach and helped to continue the winning seasons through the end of the decade. He later went on to a successful career at Xerox Corporation.

Born May 25, 1943, in Berwick, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (DiBattista) Malatesta.
 
He was the loving husband of Carla (Magazine) Malatesta. His survivors include their daughter , Alexandra McMahan (Connor); two sons, Paul Christopher Malatesta (Peggy), and Christopher Malatesta (Jennifer), additionally there are five grandchildren; siblings, Joseph Malatesta, Roseanne Silvers, and Addy Malatesta.

Private graveside services will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia, Monday, May 4, 2020. There will be a Celebration of his Life to be held at a later date this year.
