PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will begin the 2020-21 season as the third ranked team in the American Athletic Conference East Division, as chosen by a vote of the league's head coaches. In addition to the team ranking, Owls' junior Peyton Boyd was named to the preseason All-Conference team.
Temple is coming off a 2019 season that saw the Owls go 12-15 overall, including a 3-13 mark in conference play. Temple had their best start in program history at 9-0 before a mid-season slide, but ended the year on a high note. Struggling through injuries, the Owls slumped in the conference schedule, but got a big win over a talented Wichita State team in October and then closed out the 2019 season with a thrilling 3-2 win over USF.Â
Boyd earns her first career preseason honor, after being named to the All-Conference second team in 2019. The Dumfries, Va. had a solid conference season last year, recording 142 kills, while hitting .303, ninth best in the American. Boyd tallied nine double-digit kill performances throughout the season, with seven coming against American Athletic Conference foes. She also recorded a pair of double-doubles in 2019, and notched career highs of 16 kills (vs. ECU) and 22 digs (vs. Tulane).Â
Temple is set to begin the 2021 season on Saturday, hosting Morgan State at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
