Women’s Basketball Heads to Tulane for Back-to-Back Contests

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team travels to New Orleans, La. to take on Tulane on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m. Saturday's contest will be aired on ESPN+ and Sunday's game will be featured on ESPNU. 

THE OWLS
> Temple enters Saturday's game with a record of 5-5 (5-2 AAC). The Owls are currently ranked third in the American Athletic Conference. 
> The Owls are shooting 38.8% from the floor, 23.4% from three-point range, and 65.5% from the foul line thus far this season.  
> Senior Mia Davis leads the Owls with 18.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. So far, the forward has recorded four double-doubles this season.
> Rookie Jasha Clinton is Temple's second-leading scorer with 13.0 points per game, while adding 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.2 steals per game for the Owls. Clinton leads Temple with 16 three-pointers on the year, shooting 30.8% from beyond the arc.   
> Junior Alexa Williamson is the third Owl averaging double-digit points this season with 10.1 per game. Williamson boasts a field goal percentage of 47.7% and adds 6.7 rebounds per game for the Cherry and White. 
> Sophomore Asonah Alexander ranks 12th in the country with her 6.1 assists per outing. Alexander is also Temple's second-leading rebounder with 6.9 per contest.

CARDOZA'S 400TH GAME
> Saturday's game at Tulane will be head coach Tonya Cardoza's 400th game coaching the Temple Owls. 
> Cardoza has coached the most games for the women's basketball program than any other coach in program history. Linda MacDonald, who coached the Owls from 1980-90, holds the second-most games coached with 296.
> Cardoza holds a 232-167 record with a winning percentage of .581 in her 13th season in North Philly. 
> She has led the Owls to seven postseason berths, including four NCAA Tournament appearances and a spot in the WNIT Final Four. 
> Cardoza is a two-time conference Coach of the Year and four-time Big 5 Coach of the Year.
> In 2017, she was one of 10 finalists for WBCA National Coach of the Year Honors.
> Prior to taking the reigns at TU from former college teammate Dawn Staley, Cardoza spent 14 seasons as an assistant coach at UConn with Geno Auriemma.
> During her tenure, the Huskies captured five national championships.

OWLS' LAST TIME OUT: Temple 65, Wichita State 55
> Wichita State held the lead until the fourth quarter when the Owls outscored the Shockers 20-6 to come from behind and win their fifth American Athletic Conference matchup. 
> Temple took the lead in the fourth quarter after using a 12-2 run through the end of the third and beginning of the fourth. 
> The Owls held a 37-33 edge on the boards. 
> Temple outshot the Shockers 41.5% to 36.1%, working around a 5-21 (23.8%) performance from long range. 
> The Owls recorded a season-low 12 turnovers, just three days after recording a season high 30 turnovers in the 80-46 loss at Houston. 
> Freshman Jasha Clinton led Temple with a game-high 21 points while adding three rebounds, three assists and a steal to her stat line.
> Senior Mia Davis finished just shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. 
> Sophomore Asonah Alexander registered 12 points, seven assists, five rebounds, a career-best four blocks and a steal. 
> Junior Alexa Williamson added eight points, seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal to round out the box score. 

SCOUTING TULANE
> The Green Wave enters the two-game weekend at 8-5 (4-4 AAC). 
> Freshman JerKaila Jordan leads Tulane in points (15.0 per game), assists (2.9 per game) and steals (1.7 per game). The rookie, who is shooting 47.7% from the floor, has been named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week four times thus far this season. 
> Leading the Green Wave on the boards is Krystal Freeman with 8.4 per night. The forward is also Tulane's second-highest scorer with 14.5 points per game. 
> Tulane leads the American Athletic Conference in field goal percentage at 43.5%.

GREEN WAVE'S LAST TIME OUT: Houston 71, Tulane 64
> Tulane fell to Houston 71-64 at home on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
> Houston used an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Green Wave 26-18 to come-from-behind and win the game. 
> The Cougars scored 24 points off of Tulane's 19 turnovers.
> JerKaila Jordan led the Green Wave with a game-high 19 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals. 
> Tulane held a slight 35-34 edge in the rebounding column while the Green Wave finished with a better field goal percentage (44.3 to 41.1). 
> Despite fouling out of the game, Mia Heide led Tulane in rebounds (10) and blocks (3). 

TEMPLE VS. TULANE
> Temple leads the all-time series against Tulane, 6-4. 
> The two program's met for the first time in head coach of the Owls Tonya Cardoza's first season. Temple topped Tulane 75-71 in overtime in New Orleans on Dec. 28, 2008.
> Tulane is currently on a three-game winning streak against the Owls, dating back to Feb. 7, 2018. 
> Temple's last win over the Green Wave came on Feb. 5, 2017 in New Orleans. 
> This weekend's pair of games will mark the first time the two teams have played each other twice in one season since the 2016-17 campaign. 

LAST TIME THEY MET: Tulane 53, Temple 50
> Temple was edged 53-50 by the Green Wave on Mar. 2, 2020 in New Orleans. 
> The Owls were outshot 32.1% to 28.1% from the floor while both teams shot under 30% from long range. 
> After Temple held a 35-24 lead at halftime, Tulane outscored the Owls 29-15 in the second half to walk away with the win. 
> The game saw nine lead changes, all coming in the third and fourth quarters. 
> Temple shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line while the Green Wave finished 68.8% from the charity stripe. 
> Mia Davis led the Owls with 13 points and recorded six boards. 
> Sophomore Marissa Mackins added 10 points in the loss.
> Redshirt sophomore Ashley Jones and Alexa Williamson tied for a team-high eight rebounds. Jones dished out a team-best five assists alongside her eight points while Williamson chipped in nine points for Temple.
